The Mothers Milk Bank of San Jose is looking anywhere for vegan mothers that can donate their breast milk.

There is an infant in San Jose that is suffering from an extreme case of severe bovine protein allergy. The infant
was breastfed then within a short time, he developed severe vomiting and bloody stools. The mother was able to provide milk for the little one by excluding all foods that had dairy. The infant stabilized but then had a serious problem that required GI surgery. At that time, the mother lost a lot of her milk supply. He is post op right now, not doing well on any formulas. We have regular donor milk available in the hospital for him but
the physicians need non dairy donor milk. I am looking all over the US for the milk. The milk banks are having problems keeping up with the demand.

This is a very rare request and extremely hard to fill. So if you can put the word out, it will be a life saving gift for this little one.

That's wonderful!!!!

I was one of those babies although my allergies weren't quite so severe so I was able to survive (albeit covered with eczema and hives) until my mom was able to relactate.

So are the milk banks in other states taking the overflow? I know Denver usually has non-dairy milk.

California is one of the better places in the world to be if you're in desperate need of vegan breast milk. I'm glad it worked out.

Lovely - there isn't a need anymore in this situation but I think it's a great idea to see if you can donate some anyway so that if another similar situation arises, they're ready. I would contact your local LLL and go from there.

I was able to match with a mama/baby in need of dairy-free milk via MilkShare.
