I had to get special permission/approval from my insurance company in order to have my baby at a birth center. That is stupid to me because I'm going to save them so much money! Anyway, everything finally went through and guess how much it's going to cost me to have all my prenatal appointments and actually "have" the baby???????

$15.00!!!!!!!!!! That's right, just a fifteen dollar co-pay!!!! I was so excited I was leaping around the house. A co-worker of mine is having a baby at the hospital a month before me (her hubby is too afraid of a birth center : ) and it's going to be at least $1,500!! Ouch!

Thanks for reading, I just wanted to share my super-exciting news! Oh yeah, I had my first appointment with my midwife too, and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat! Yippeeeee!

YAY!!! It was well worth your efforts to try and get it covered then heh?

Our insurance is free with a birth at a birth for absolutely everything! Too bad there are no birth centers around anymore.

We don't have a birth center around here
But that's so awesome for you! $15 is pretty great!

Your lucky while I am having my baby at a in hospital birth center, the hospital is in network work to my insurance, but unfortunately my midwife is not, so they cover about 80% which means I and SO have to pay $1500 dollars plus the deductible which is about 335, Oh well, I don't mind because of the level of care I am receiving from my midwife as compare to the OB I was first seeing.

That is sooo wonderful! Congrats!

awesome! it must be a relief!! if we had a bc around here it would be $25 for me, i think? ...and the hospital would be a big fat $zero$.... but instead we pay $2500 to birth at home, lol.

That is such great news!! I just found a mw who takes the medical card and the stress it lifted is blissful!!!!!

Wow, that's amazing! Our insurance doesn't cover maternity at all, so we pay the MW $2500 for everything and that actually seems like a good deal to us!

Free Thinker 07-15-2007 03:11 PM

Lucky you! We canceled our maternity ins. so all of ours is OOP!!! EEEEEKKKKKK!!!!! Yes, I'm now stressed b/c my easy pregnancy and delivery just got updated to twins!

Oh my gosh, I would be freaking out. I wonder if your area has anything like we do. One of the BIG health care networks (which includes two hospitals), has a maternity contract for $2500. You can be seen by residents and deliver at one hospital or nurse midwives and deliver at another hospital. We did this with DD and are doing it again. The MW group is great, and though we still delivered in a hospital, it was great to be under their care. Another large hospital here does the same thing except you have to be seen by residents.

I just got the quote from my OB...... $4775 for just the OB part, then the hospital part is seprate! That is for 2 vag. deliveries, 4 US, and 9 NST which I probably will not get all of b/c I'll probably go early and hey will refund me whatever I don't "use" You are all SO lucky!

SMS - same here, we are excited about the (low) $2500 mw fees!
