We are going to Disney in a week- its a 2 hour flight. My almost 2 and almost 4 year old are going, and we purchased plane seats for both of them. I cannot imagine my enormous toddler sitting on my lap, lol even though technically he could have been free. We have an extra radian, so I will be bringing that for him, basically to keep him immobile. We won't be needing carseats once we are there because we will be using public transportation everywhere.

What about the 4 year old? I think she will be just fine in the seat. Thoughts?

If you don't need the seat when you get there I would be okay with most 4yr olds in a plane seat.

I'd be fine (and in fact was fine when ds1 was 4) with a 4yo just in a lap belt on the plane.

I flew with my 4 year old in just the plane seat and it was fine. She sat well and had room to cross her legs for comfort.

Looking at safety on board there is no problem bringing a child of any age on board without a car seat. We have plenty of data which show lap belts , or no belt at all, is not a safety issue for any child. Safety for kids on board is not an issue which all kinds of data from FAA show.

Since you will be using PT no car seats are needed IMHO. - Rear Facing Car Seats ⢠55 lbs Rear Facing Car Seats

The main reason for bringing the carseats on the plane is to 1. make sure they dont get lost/damaged by checking them in, and 2. keep the kid contained/comfortable (those airplane seatbelts are sooo easy for them to get out of!)

If you dont need one for your destination, I wouldnt bother. And you could get a CARES harness for your 2yr old to make it even easier.

Although, if it were me, I'd still be installing carseats on the shuttle busses (some have seatbelts, some dont, depends on what you're on)

Yeah, my big concern would be the shuttle buses. We bought tickets on the Disney shuttle and it was just a 15 passenger van, so of course the kids needed their seats. I have also seen larger buses, the 24-ish passenger types, which all have seatbelts, and the kids would also need seats.
