I have no idea what this is, and my OB has ordered one today because part of my left foot has been numb for almost a week. I'm pretty freaked out about it mostly because I don't know what is going on or what it is looking for. Anyone have a clue?

I've never had one done, but it is simply an u/s wand that they'll place all over your leg looking for a blood clot in a vein. It doesn't hurt at all.

Oh, good, thanks!

I was hoping it wasn't something terribly invasive. I was worried because I have to go to dum...dum...dummmmmmmmmmmm SURGERY dummmm...dummmmm to get it done.

I'm not totally sure about this so hopefully someone else can answer better but I believe doing a venus doppler involves using some sort of doppler device to look for blood clots in the arteries and veins of the affected leg to rule out a blood clot being the reason for the numbness in your foot.

Yep, as mentioned, it's an ultrasound wand that's passed over your legs, toes to groin. They will probably test by looking at the veins as normal and by pushing the blood out and watching the return of blood. The tech will just rub their thumb along the skin for a few inches at several points along your leg.
It took about 20 minutes to do both my legs.

I didn't shave - men don't, after all! She was rude to me, too, so I hope she got prickled!!

Nothing to worry about. We did so many in the ICU. Other than the gel (which should be warmed) there will be no discomfort. Should take 15 minutes tops.
