I have hypothyroidism and take 60 mg of Armour thyroid daily. I feel pretty much normal all the time.

I am scheduled for foot surgery October 22nd. Does thryroid disease affect anesthesia? I want to have IV sedation (MAC/twilight) due to post-op nausea and vomiting. However, I am guessing they will push/insist on general (yech). The procedure will last from 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours.

I searched Google with "anesthesia+thyroid" and just came up with types of anesthesia for thyroid removal surgery.

Thanks, in advance, for ANY answers!

I have hyperthyroidism, and I have had 2 major surgeries under general anesthesia with no problems. (one to have my large intestine removed, and one to form my small intestine into an internal resovior)

Depending on the foot surgery, twilight with local may be an option. I would guess your foot surgeon would be the best one to discuss the options with.

good luck!
