If everyone could check in and let me know if you have a journal (and whose journal you have) I just want to figure out where they all are right now.

Swap basics: Every mama writes in a journal for 4-5 out of 7 days, then mails the journal to another mama. You can write, draw, doodle, add stickers, whatever you feel like. We each write in whatever journal we have for a week, then pass it on. This passing continues until we get our personal journal back.

I've started calling this the journal project when talking about it, and I think 'project' fits, as this is a long term swap. It is a time commitment.. we all know that things happen, that's why it is writing 4-5 out of 7 days in a week. Of course you'd be welcome to write more often than 4-5 entries, and we'd all be reading the entries that came before ours!

Want to Join? If you want to participate please post to this thread and PM me your address. We are opening this to Canadian/overseas mamas as well, so if you are willing/not willing to send to Canada/overseas please include that in your post. Then go buy a journal. Your choice on style/size, just pick something less than a pound and a decent size for shipping, and make sure you have enough pages for everyone to write at least 5+ entries (I know I write alot!)

Shipping details:I'm hoping we can just keep reusing those bubble wrap mailers from the PO, just taping a new address over the old. You are commiting to mailing First class/parcel post, with DC since that is required for all swaps here. If money is *extremely* tight for you let me know in your PM and I'll see if there is a mama very close to you so you can possibly use Media Mail. You will always mail to the same mama, it will look something like this:

Mama A to Mama B, Mama B to Mama C, Mama C to Mama D, etc..

I'm hoping to set it up so you are mailing to a mama generally close to you, so the journal will get there faster. Please post to this thread whenever you recieve a journal, so I can track them. It can be something simple, like "Recieved MammaKerry's Journal today! "

Other Details: Before you write anything in each new journal it would be nice if you write something similar to a signature, just so we can know a little about your family before we start reading about it. Maybe something like:

Quote:
Kerry (mammakerry), single mama in school for social work. We live in Albany, NY. DD (name) is 9 years old, and DS (name) is 4.
Then if you start writing something about one of your DC we'll know who they are.

Alright, that seems like it's it! Oh, there has been an interest thread going here, if you want to see. Also, we have a tribe! Check it out here!

Sign ups will be open from now until January 19th, and please PM me your address by this date. Also, start writing in your journal by this day, so it will be ready to send.
I'll PM you with your send-to mama by January 22nd (Hopefully sooner, I just don't know how much homework I'll have.. knowing me you'll get the PM on January 20th. )
Please send your journal on January 25th/26th (6-7 days after the 19th, which is our closing date)

We will be capping this swap at 30 mamas, as the more we have the longer it will take. If you are closed out, I'm sorry.. but you're more than welcome to steal the idea and start another! Also, I will keep a waiting list in case anyone changes their mind.

I'm splitting this up into 3 groups, because that makes it take less time.

PLEASE do not let money keep you from this swap. If you really want to do this and money is the only issue, PM me and I'll see what I can do.

Kerry, loving wife to Pete, mama to DD (14) DS1 (9) DS2 (3) & Expecting someone new Jan 2013

It has been mentioned that perhaps we should split this into two swaps, 10 mamas each, to cut back on time/costs. If possible, please put any preference you have about this into your post when you say your in.
Yup, I'm quoting myself and replying to my own swap thread already.

I'm alright with this lasting however long it lasts, which is why I'd said 20 participants. I'm definately open to discussion about this though, and Ambrose has offered to host the second journal swap, if that's what we choose.

I'm budgeting in $3 a week in shipping costs for this swap, which I think is a bit over, since you won't actually be shipping every week as there will be time waiting for journals.

This is the Tribe for mama's who are interested in Journal Projects. (Swaps)

This is a place for us to encourage each other about our journals and to just have general chit chat.

Any swap related things NEED to go in the Swap Forum (Starting of swaps, etc)

There is currently a Journal Project Going on in Swaps with a discussion wrt it.

The possibility of a second one is being discussed. Along with ideas related to what is already in place. Go THERE to discuss the swapping stuff.

Otherwise just check in and have fun here!

*Will edit this post if necessary per mammakerry* [I am soo in with her right now]

Whee! I'm so excited to see this here. I can see posting something like - "Mama! I was reading your journal entry.. what's your recipie for that dinner you were cooking?!"

I'm feeling the love! I was worried no one would like the journal project idea.

I'm in - off to PM.

I'm for either 10 or 20, but I'm wondering timewise whether 20 mamas = approx 30 weeks = 7 months can keep this going and still manage to get our original journals back? I can see things maybe losing momentum and people dropping. A lot can happen in 7 months. I guess since this is the first time, maybe 2- 10 mama groups might be better.

Anyone else have suggestions?

Hmm.. 7 months is a long time. There's a discussion (well.. Ambrose and I posting back and forth : ) going on in the discussion thread. I'd love for more mamas to come chime in with their thoughts!

Ooo.. I had an idea.. What if I keep this open to 20 mamas, and make the journals go in 2 circles.. so it's really divided into 10 and 10. That way, if someone wants out after 10 rounds they can? So a 20 participant swap, but you'll only see 10 journals? (Am I making any sense?)

Then after the journals get back to us we can open the Journal Project (Part 2) and then if someone needs to stop they can and we can get some new mamas in?

Wow I'm a picky journaler... I went shopping yesterday and bought a journal I liked. Now I've changed my mind.. it's to cluttered with other things on the pages!! So I went to CVS, intending to buy a lightweight binder, filler paper, and possibly dividers, and just making my own binder/journal. Apperently I don't like that idea anymore either. Good thing I didn't buy those items!

I'm going Journal shopping AGAIN today.. wish my luck!

I want in. I think the two groups of ten might be easier to manage. We all know LIFE happens and it would suck to either NOT get your journal back or have something pop up and someone bows out or forgets or or or.....

(My thought for this corresponds to the 3 mos fairy swap in which a lot of mamas got nothing, or one pkg. It seemed to have a lot of problems creep up. No offense to anyone who participated in that swap, or sent to me, this is my disclaimer. I just read a lot of posts that sais " I never got Nov pkg" " I haven't gotten anything" "my mama won't respond to pm's" etc.....)

Whew, so that being said I'd vote for the smaller group size, smaller wait time and swap length. Also from experience in the 3 mos fairy sawp, it counted as a swap for the whole three months. HTH

Ok, I too, like the smaller groups idea now. I remember the 3 mo. long fairy list. although it was fun, alot stuff happened and some mamas flaked in the middle.

Yeah, I'll definately split it. 7 months is to long! Next question - split by region? (west coast/east cost) or by joining time, or just make sure all circles go around the countries? What do you think?

Im up for anything!
It would kinda be cool to see what warmer weather mamas are up to this time of year while Im lurking in the snow But then again, if you split it by regions, it might be cheaper to mail and quicker too. Its a toss up for me.

I figure it may take longer to go to different regions...but would be more interesting. If it takes longer, so be it. You just do your 4-5 days and ship a.s.a.p.
