My mom's friend is having some difficulty getting a good latch (though babe is growing and wetting). Any suggestions for a good lac consultant or counselor?

Thanks
Lia

Yes, here:

Dixie Whetsell, MS, IBCLC
Board Certified Lactation Consultant
Dixie has been counseling breastfeeding families since 1992. She received her Master's degree in Health Education from the University of Oregon. In addition to consulting with new breastfeeding families, Dixie also trains health care professionals to support breastfeeding. Dixie is a member of the International Lactation Consultants Association, the Oregon/Washington Lactation Association, and Nursing Mothers Council of Oreg
on.

She is the head of the Lactation Department at Emanuel is awesome! She helped me tremendously. She also has her own lactation business and she and her staff will come to your house. Totally worth every single cent.

My babies were born at Providence~ Avoid the lac consultants there at all cost. They are the worst! Horrible advice!! Ruined my first bfing experience.

Here's Dixie's group:

hey lia, would your mom's friend be open to having some craniosacral work done with her babe? korin (chiromama here on mdc) does this work, as does amy watson, and my chiro out here in hillsboro, anita stefan. it's nothing like chiropractic for adults. here's some info from kellymom: chiropractic and craniosacral for infants

Oh, tell me about it...When she came in to my birthing room after my 2nd baby I told her to get out or I was going to call security...She's awful!

I hold her and my former pedi personally responsible for the destruction of my bfing relationship with my ds...she pushed formula on us so hard...:

thanks everyone, for the recs. it is zenana, actually, and she works with my (lyla) at beyond birth. dixie initially ran the practice, but we have been a collective practice for 5 years now, and currently, dixie is on leave of absence. and zenana no longer works at providence, just with us at beyond birth.

hope that clarifies!

warmly, Lyla

I second Lyla... she helped us tremendously when we were getting started breastfeeding and has continued to be available to us. Beyond Birth... (503) 232-2229our insurance didn't cover it, but it was WELL worth the money. I think $150 or something like that... but I feel like I got a personal Lactation Consultant for life that I could call with any questions that came up... OK, well maybe I'd have to renew with baby #2!

It's HUGELY important to get a good latch... I strongly encourage your moms friend to get in touch!

oops, sorry to be giving out 2.5 yr old info... i really don't know the prov. hospital consultants- they were busy when i was there, thus they sent me to the clinic, so i was speaking only of the clinic really. from what i hear, that clinic is pretty well regarded compared to other hospital network consultants.

WOW! what a timely question - we lacation consultants know that breastfeeding issues seem to come in "clumps" and this is DEFINITELY tongue tie MONTH for me in my practice. yes - i have lots of info about tongue tie, and often catch it when others have not, if i do say so myself...

IBCLCs cannot clip a frenulum, or even "officially" diagnose, but we can describe what we see, what its possible impacts are, rule out other causes of a problem, make suggestions, and help plan a course of action.

warmly, Lyla

oh, and we can refer for frenotomy.
