Do any of you guys know of any coops or any farm where I can purchase meats in bulk for freezing?

I am looking for just about anything except for seafood.
Cow
Chicken
venison
Goat
etc.

We also eat all organic and grass fed beefs, no hormone/free range chicken, etc.

We would also be interested in milk for freezing as well. We are trying to wean ourselves from the grocery store and we are most of the way there... except for this.

I bought 1/4 cow from Star Haven farms, they're about halfway between Austin and Houston. They have a website, I'm sure you can find it if you google.

I get amazing eggs from the Bayou City Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings from Olde World Farms and they sell whole pastured chickens as well. I've been using chicken from our freezer for a while so I haven't tried theirs yet.

They usually drop off at the HCC campus near 610 and 59, a NW site near 290 and 1960, somewhere in sugarland... not sure where else.

Several choices though

That place looks great, Angela!

For other various sources of local milk, honey, produce and such, I subbed to the Yahoo groups Houston Organic and Houston Raw several months back and they both have great resources for all of those things, too!

I had no idea there were yahoo groups for this! I am going WAY overboard with my yahoo groups, but it's such a great way to find people with similar interests/needs.

Thanks!

Ooh what a great thread...I've been wanting to find a local farm or something to buy meats and dairy from. I had not gotten around to researching yet since we've only been moved for a couple weeks. Thanks everyone for sharing all this info!

If can make it out to Bayou City Farmer's Market on Saturday they always have WONDERFUL eggs from a couple of vendors.

http://www.urbanharvest.org/programs/market/index.html

I cannot for the life of me remember which place I buy from, but I really like them. They also sell various meats. I think it may be Olde World Farm. But they have such wonderful eggs, and they are $3.50/dz, and have white, brown, and my favorite, green eggs from their auracaunas in their dozens.

Great thread. I was just thinking of researching this stuff a bit more, especially considering all the flooding going on in the midwest.

update on my quest.

I met up with Paidom (as recommended above by Angela) and picked up our meatz of doom. I got a quarter cow and some chickens. They were at the pick up point very much on time, answered all of my questions and were just great and easy to deal with...

THe meat, it is just perfect. So far we have made two pieces that we got (out of the many many that we bought) and it is very tasty and great.

I will definately be ordering from them again next time they have a drop off in Houston (around two months or so).

Me too! I've been going to Sandy's Marketplace off I-10 and Kirkwood. Do any of you think it's safe enough/organic enough? I'm trying to get 100% organic and nothing but it. Anyone know the scoop?

Oops..dunno what happened to the first edit but here it is again. lol.

I live close to Fry Rd. and 529, actually. If you know of something better let me know.

Thanks
