Umm...every SINGLE ONE of those is a legitimate concern...I'm pretty sure that was the biggest load of bull-faced propaganda that I have read this year. Yes, this year...2008 hasn't been here for very long.

I totally agree angel!

But in a way...reading this makes me feel good. You know why?
Because it means enough people are boycotting these products
that they felt the need to compile this "report". We are winning
people! Keep it up and keep educating others!

Enlightening! I had assumed that injecting mercury into a baby was unhealthy, but there you go!

Luckily for us, it is possible to know which things are beneficial, because researchers and the medical community have approved them...like Thalidomide, placing a baby on his tummy to sleep, doing a hysterectomy on every woman over forty, routine forceps delivery, infant circumcision, formula feeding, prophylactic episiotomies...

I noticed that a lot of that report said that "didn't show evidence that xyz". I noticed it didn't say "evidence shows it to be safe."

Some of the "false" concerns they listed are, I believe, valid, and some really are false. Make your own best decisions.

I am most bothered by referring to the alleged vaccines/autism connection as a "scare." Whether you believe that vaccines cause autism or not, autism is not scary! :

Brig. While I understand that for you autism is not some scary thing. For the average parent it is. It is difficult to be accepted by many in society when your behaviors fall outside what is perceived as average or "normal". It is difficult to have a child who falls outside those parameters. It can be scary.

I thought the lipstick one was the dumbest. Yeah, it's ok to rub lead on your lips 2-3 times a day and eat with it on. Nothing will happen, really!

I agree. If they can't say "xyz has been proven to be safe" then I'm not going to risk it.*

*Obviously this does not apply to every minute aspect of my life, etc etc.

Yes, but mainstream news outlets do not have to pander to this fear/prejudice. They could print articles about what autistic people are really like instead of feeding the hysteria of "ewwww, autisticooties!"

I did a little googling and the acticle is from the American Council on Health and Science with grants from the following...

* Abbott Laboratories
* Bristol-Myers Squibb
* Exxon Mobil
* McDonalds
* Chevron
* Eastman Kodak
* 3M
* DuPont

...and so on and so forth.

How about the parents in MD who are threatened with jail and fines for not vaccinating their children despite the fact that the law clearly permits a religious exemption? That is a bogus scare on the part of the state government.

It is in the latest issue of Mothering.

"Vaccines are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get - acute hemorrhagic edema of infancy, allergies, anaphylaxis, asthma, autoimmune disease, diabetes, eczema, petit/gran mal seizures, fibromyalgia, Henoch-Schonlein purpua, Dravet's Syndrome, Retts Syndrome, Sweet's Syndrome, Hughes Syndrome, encephalitis, speech delay, tics, neurological damage, coma, ADEM, ADHD, AFP, ASIA, CFS, CRPS, GBS, ITP, JPA, JRA, LGS, LKS, MS, OMS, ORS, PANDAS, PANS, PINTANDS, POF, POTS, RA, SIDS, SJS, SLE, SPD, SUDS, TPI, the disease one is being vaccinated against, or death."

Paraphrased from "Forrest Gump".

List from the drug companies' own package inserts that come with their product as required by law.

I never even thought to ask who was funding them! Usually I am extra quick to find a conspiracy theory. I must fine tune my paranoia.

I can finally start using teflon to warm my vaxed baby's milk and feed it to him in a plastic bottle, while wearing lipstick and chewing on a industrially made hotdog.

Make sure to wash it down with some fluorinated water while smelling your Colombian roses.

The origin of most of those scares is found in studies published in medical journals.

Then they refute their own study with another study.

Dr. Mendelsohn used to tell people to read medical journals and note the debates that go on therein.

Do you really think they know what they are doing or talking about?

"Vaccines are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get - acute hemorrhagic edema of infancy, allergies, anaphylaxis, asthma, autoimmune disease, diabetes, eczema, petit/gran mal seizures, fibromyalgia, Henoch-Schonlein purpua, Dravet's Syndrome, Retts Syndrome, Sweet's Syndrome, Hughes Syndrome, encephalitis, speech delay, tics, neurological damage, coma, ADEM, ADHD, AFP, ASIA, CFS, CRPS, GBS, ITP, JPA, JRA, LGS, LKS, MS, OMS, ORS, PANDAS, PANS, PINTANDS, POF, POTS, RA, SIDS, SJS, SLE, SPD, SUDS, TPI, the disease one is being vaccinated against, or death."

And this really makes sense. I always tell MIL to look at who paid for the "facts" she hears and reads about. Do they make a profit off what is being reported?

I agree that all those things are legit concerns and the article is bogus. But, damn, that hot dog at the top looks so yummy!

(For the record, I always want a hot dog when I see one but can't eat it when I actually do buy one...)
