Bernanke proposes fresh stimulus plan
Quote:
Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, saying the country’s economic weakness could last for some time, threw his weight Monday behind a fresh round of government stimulus.
So, in addition to all the other money they've thrown at this problem, now Bernanke is supporting the Senate's idea of creating more money for a stimulus package for the rest of us? Why does no one, media or otherwise, seem to ever raise the question of *where* we are getting this money?

I'm concerned about where this money is coming from. I know that doesn't help.

I worried about inflation with all this influx of $$. I was at the grocery store this weekend, and I was noticing price increases in many things I regularly buy.

Buying stocks in banks is bugging me too. I was watching 60 Minutes last night. They were talking to the CEO of Bank of America. When the Govt decided to buy stocks in banks, it bought into the 9 largest banks even though not all of them need the boost in capital. The govt didn't want to just buy stock in the troubled institutions because they were concerned it would single them out and cause their stock to fall or their bank customers to lose confidence in those institutions.

I think the govt is making a mistake there because if my bank was in trouble with making bad investments and possibly insolvent - I think I deserve to know about it. It seems like an open cover up. It seems like an excuse for the govt to nationalize the banking institutions.

I'm questioning this guy's qualifications to run a cash register at this point, much less to be in the position he's actually IN. :

Unfortunately, from what I heard of his speech, they aren't talking checks for us, or even investing in infrastructure in the country. They are talking about doing something to 'free up the credit freeze.' This means (according to him) guaranteeing loans and offering direct federal loans.

Gee, thanks so much. This will solve all of my problems. :

If they're sending out checks, I want the same amount the war gets.

There are people that raise that question, however they're laughed at and written off as crazy loons by the mainstream media. Specifically, I'm thinking of Dennis Kucinich and Ron Paul. There are also some economists that are continually told they're wrong or unnecessarily spreading doom and gloom during media appearances, even though they have a history of being correct with their predictions. I guess the media thinks the American public doesn't want to know the truth.
