I have a very close friend whose water broke at 16 weeks. She was put on bedrest, and delivered a healthy little boy at 36 weeks. He's now a perfectly normal 7-year-old.

Stay off your feet, stay hydrated, and stay positive. I'll keep you in my prayers!

How scary! I saw this on the front and had to respond. I know I have read that leaks can self heal. Your ER doc. is a moron and you are fortunate to have bad insurance

Drink lot's of water; as long as your level remains the same then you are drinking enough. If your level starts to drop, drink more. Eat healthy, try to eat foods that are known to boost immunity to avoid infection and a good way to avoid infection is to remain hydrated and not allow too many pelvic exams, each one is a potential carrier for infection.

Hang in there, keep a positive attitude, and keep telling that baby they need to grow some more before they meet the world. My best to you and your family.

Mama, you and your little one are in my thoughts and prayers.

Is there anything you can do to make infection less likely? Increase garlic intake? There might be a few natural recommendations that are worth trying.

ETA: When I am sick I cut up raw garlic in pill form to take because (I believe) it acts as a broad spectrum antibiotic. I have no idea if something like that would help though. Sending you love and positive vibes!

Oh mama!!!

Another personal story...a close friend's water broke at 22 weeks, she was immediately hospitalized and put on strict bed rest, given steroids, fed a ridiculously high calorie diet, etc. She lasted 8 days and delivered her baby at 23 weeks 4 days on Christmas Day. That baby is now looking forward to his first birthday coming up in 2 months! He left the NICU on his due date weighing 9lbs (after weighing just over a pound at birth). It was amazing, the closest I've come to seeing a real miracle in person.

Another mama, here on MDC (ClaireB is her screen name, I believe) had twins, and baby A had no amniotic fluid the entire pregnancy. None. The drs said absolutely zero chance of survival, he would have no lungs, compression injuries from the weight of his twin, etc. He and his twin were born at 26 weeks and BOTH lived. In fact, the baby with no amniotic fluid needed less help breathing initially! Look her up, she shared her story in great detail on MDC. Her pregnancy started as quads, then trips, then twins, then looked like one or both of the twins was going to not make it, but they both did. An amazing journey!!

Those are just two that I can think of right now. There is always hope!! Your body is hanging on to that baby, your fluid levels are staying stable, there is hope!! Force yourself on absolute bed rest, be absolutely sure that you stay hydrated to a ridiculous level, feed yourself high calorie high nutrient food, and inquire about steroids to help mature the baby as you approach viability. If your fluid levels drop too much, ask about infusion.

I wish you the best in this scary journey. No matter what happens you will know you did what you could - and it sounds like there is some hope to grow the babe a few more weeks! I pray that is what will happen for you and that you end up with the best possible outcome.

You have my 's I think the usual advice after water breaking is to not allow any vaginal exams due to infection risk.

I have read that vitamin C with bioflavonoids are beneficial to placenta and membrane health. I had read a story that a mom with ruptured membranes was successful in getting them to reseal while using these supplements. I hope and pray that your little one will stay put long enough to have a healthy birth! I'm so sorry you are experiencing this!

Mom to eight!!  Our twin girls arrived 3-3-2011.

WOW I had no idea about something like this. You and your family are in my thoughts, hoping that all these positive stories is how yours ends up as well. It seems weird to think that having "poor" insurance could be a blessing in disguise. Good luck mamma, lots and lots of hugs!
