Hi all, we live in Roanoke and are trying to find a midwife.
We would prefer to use a CPM but would be willing to consider a CNM as well, can you help us?

Thanks so much!!

Hi,
There are several midwives in Roanoke. My dd had a homebirth with her last baby. E-mail me and I will see who's names and numbers I can get. [email protected]

Is it correct, however, that there aren't any midwives that will deliver in a hospital in the Roanoke area? I've been searching but was told there aren't any.

HI, I've done several homebirths in the Roanoke area over the years as a direct-entry midwife, before completing my nurse-midwifery degree. I also have a sister I stay w/ frequently whe in the area awaiting stronger labor.

NO, Not yet. I had one with birthpartners & will reactivate it in May, when I'm back home in NC, again, permanently, and will have new changes/additions to make to it. I also plan to hire someone to make a really nice one for, as well. IN either case, you as well as, any potential client still would need to read the 10 page Informed Choice Document about me/my practice, etc. YOU can private message me & send me your address & I'll send that to you.

i just found myself back on this thread, and was shocked to see that i had written on it before. it says only two weeks ago! can that be right? the reason i am so surprised is that i wrote in the pp that we wouldn't be trying to conceive for 2-3 yrs. well, 2 weeks changes a lot. we're trying now!

You might want to start going to some homebirth meetings now before your pregnant so you can learn all about it. I can help you with that too if you'd like : )

lynda, i keep seeing you on the roanoke threads. i introduced myself here in may as waiting to conceive for 2-3 yrs. a couple weeks after that we were ttc. well that changed, and we never started trying. be that as it may, i am now 1 month pregnant, and so happy. i just found out yesterday.

i am hoping to contact alicia king and maybe some other midwives too. so excited about homebirth, but a little nervous about a heart condition that may make a dr. and even a midwife nervous about homebirth. i would be utterly disappointed if that is the case. i feel that this problem is very minor, and it bothers me how cautious everyone is about it. but then again, if it really is an issue, i don't want to put my baby at risk. but i am so distrusting of docs that its hard for me to want to follow their advice.

sorry to hijack the thread. but it is exciting to finally be in this process. looking forward to meeting other homebirth people in roanoke.

Thanks Lynda. I just spoke with Alicia this morning and we set an appointment for this week. It hardly feels real that I'm going to be a mommy. When does it sink in? (rhetorical question--don't want to hijack the thread!)

I know this thread is old, but should anyone come across it looking for a midwife, just wanted to let everyone know there are several licensed CPM's that serve the SWVA area.

I am a licensed CPM myself. My name is Crystal Musselman CPM, LM and my website is www.openheartstraditionalhands.com. I was traditionally trained at home through an apprenticeship with my now partner midwife Wanda Smith CPM, LM. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call 540-330-2123 or email [email protected].

Blessings,

Crystal

I just came across this thread again & wanted to make sure there is accurate information here.  (Thanks for the kind words, Lynda!).  I am Alicia King, BTW.  I am a midwife licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine and serving SW Virginia, including the Roanoke & Blacksburg areas.  My company is Well Rounded Moms.  We provide homebirth, waterbirth, VBAC & doula services as well as childbirth education (Lamaze, Hypnobirthing, breastfeeding, etc.), counseling, in home care, belly casting & a variety of other prenatal/postpartum services.  You can call me at 540-382-3031, email [email protected] or go to the website @ www.wellroundedmoms.com . I am also happy to provide referrals.  We are a very blessed area with multiple precious midwives.

Old thread, but wanted to add my name to the pot and post a corrected web-site.  I'm Wanda, have over 23 years experience, am certified by NARM & licensed by the VA Board of Medicine.  http://www.gentlebirthroanoke.com/
