Great book to read to children: The River Bank and Other Stories from The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame Edit
by Catholic Mama Combined Rating: 5.0
This is a collection of charming century-old stories brought back to life with new illustrations by Inga Moore. First published in 1908, these stories have charmed children and adults for generations. Mole and his kind, resourceful friend Rat have all sorts of adventures on the river bank and with their friends, adventurous Mr. Toad and even Badger in the middle of winter.
Pros Cons
  • beautiful illustrations
  • kind, loving friendship
  • exciting adventures
  • It ended too quickly!
Though this book's language is very rich and descriptive, it is still good for both children and adults. Needing a break from spring cleaning, Mole stumbles upon the riverbank, where he meets his new friend Rat, who is very knowledgeable about the river and its inhabitants. Rat is very generous with Mole; they become good friends as they explore the river, suffer through an adventure with Mr. Toad, and look for Badger. I would recommend this to anyone who has enough patience to sit down and read to her child(ren) for a good long time.
