'06-07 Homeschoolers

My kids this year are going to be six, three and one. It is our second year homeschooling. We're involved in two learning communities this year, one that grew out of the baltap playgroup and one in our neighborhood.

We're classical leaning relaxed homeschoolers. We're using TWTM as a guide and trying to also follow the kids' interests.

We've been planning to homeschool since before DS was born. Although he's not yet five, and thus not "officially" homeschooling, he's ready and interested! We're in a number of support groups, including one that's connected to an umbrella group that we're considering for next year. DS will be able to participate in various homeschooling activities and field trips this year to a much larger extent than in previous years.
We're doing the "child-led learning" thing - unschooling, really, but not radically so. DS has specifically asked to learn how to read and to learn Spanish, so we've been focusing on those. Our family is also very big on science, so we do a lot of science-oriented activities. And DS is really into math now, too. Really, he's pretty interested in everything he can find to be interested in!
We're in our 3rd year (I guess technically 4th but I don't do kindergarten). I'll have a 1st and 3rd grader this year. We unschooled last year which I discovered does not work well for me. We're going to use Winterpromise's American Story 1 this year. Hopefully that will work out well.

I'd like to find a support group in Montgomery County but I still haven't come up with anything. We do go to one small group in Frederick but none of the kids live very close to us.
This will be my first year of Homeschooling. I have a 5 year old daughter and we're not using a program this year. I find support from a local playgroup that other homeschooled children attend and BAHE.

I was trying to say that we are unschoolers also.
We have a new babysitter 2 days each week who is a Waldorf homeschooler so the boys are having fun taking nature walks and doing lots of imaginative play.
At home we are preparing an area for "projects". ds1 loves to do crafts. I also got a file folder to keep things in for the portfolio review and have started a calendar where I can jot down things we do, learn about or discuss that fit in a category. We are very, ultra relaxed but the kids ask 10 million questions so I figured I might as well try to keep track of it so it looks good to the Board of Ed.

we really need to make a way to get together. I have questions and ideas and what not and I'd love some feedback or an ear to chew about it all. =)

plus the kids would love to have friends to play with. my son is going thru this aweful bored/distructive/annoying phase which is a signal that he needs more playtime!
We are free Monday early afternoon. Are you?
