okay so I'm a littl freaked out that i just figured this out--on WIC's records she had lost 1lb since being weighed at 6 months (she's 10 mo 5 days today)--then I took her back her dr to verify from the weight she was with them (17' 8 oz) and today she was 16' 02oz
her iron was fine.
I am exclusively BFing- she's had allergies and so started solids late and is only eating a handful of things---however I still BF her every 3 hours (same since birth)--(I've heard the BM can sustain them for a year anyways)---

at 7 1/2 mo she was the 17'8oz--so it's been in the past 2 1/2 months! (she's was crawling at 5 ish months on the go for good--walking along couches, etc at 6 months and has been ever since- but not any mroe active then she was at 6 1/2 months old)---

the only connection I CAN make is this-- (at 4 months old I realized she was reactng to DAIry and I cut it from my diet--however she contnued to grow (and stopped getting hives)--however at 7 months old WE gut out Gluten (just found out my son has celiac disease) and I've been off gluten---been eating pretty great however maybe I haven't been having enough fat---would this be a problem for my milk supply? I always thougth that they just take what they need and then leave your body wanting--

so is this maybe a problem with my supply? I always thought if they were happy and seemed satisfied after eating they were good...is this not so? do babies get used to like starving and feel satisfied when eating too little?
or is the problem that seh needs more calories from more solids? (which si stupid since BM is MORE calories than even the most caloric solid foods I can give her (she eats avacado)---

or what are the other options for problems? I know there can be GI problems (which may be likely since son just found out he has celiac disease (2 1/2 yr old) --anyways--thanks--sorry it's boring- I'm worried--but not TOO much- but I figure something's got to change--or maybe not--we'll see.

we are inbetween drs since the last one asked us to leave basically (we're delay vaccinating)--and he's the one that was a jerk about me asking for a clieac test for my son. TIA

Was the weight loss measured on the same scale? Was she wearing the same amount of clothing?

According to what I've heard doctors like to see kids growing. And they don't get too concerned about the curve as long as there is one. In your case, with weight loss I would be concerned. Food sensitivities can cause malabsorption which could lead to weight loss. So in your case I think I'd definitely get it checked out & see what a GI doctor has to sa.

yes I verfied the weight loss on TWO scales today---wic and her dr we saw the one time.
(I realized I need to keep better records of my kids' medical and stuff!)

so everyone talks about GI doc---is that just a gastrologist---there's the same for adults AND kids? so I'd just get a referral from the normal family dr?!!

so despite me "thinking" she's at baseline--she could be havign problems? honestly to ME her poo is very healthy and normal and whenever I had problems and figured out what is was it went back to normal (when i cut the food out)---
so food intolerances could keep her from gaining...me not having enough milk, her not getting enough calories, what other reasons?

I could be totally off-base here, but my first thought was that you all might be losing weight with the diet change (because of prior inflammation/weight due to gluten). Did you and your son lose weight as well? Has your daughter gotten taller - head circumference grown?

You'd want to see a pediatric gastroenterologist. What kind of insurance do you have? With mind, we don't need a referral. If your family doctor is willing to refer just use him/her.

I believe that technically the definition of failure to thrive includes the fact that the head isn't growing. However, weight loss in an infant that age isn't normal. A slowing of growth maybe be normal but from what I've heard, weight *loss* is usually concerning.

This is just my opinion but I would get it checked out. Also, just because the poops seem normal doesn't mean there isn't something else going on. Food stuff can be tricky.

I was noticing that--i got all the weights from the 4 drs we had on record and put htem according to time...she kept thriving when I went of dairy at 4 montnth--but at 7 months is when I went off Gluten--at 7 1/2 months she was her highest weight and in just 2 1/2 months has dropped 1 1/2lbs.

please help me understand a couple things...#1 I have lost 18 lbs since then--i know the toxins can cause harm (but what else was I supposed to do? keep letting gluten make me sick?) --would this be a factor---AND OR---i KNOW that our fat intake has DRAMATICALLY decreased since going off gluten--because i got most of it when I would make homeade granola (w/coconut oil and lots of nuts) now oats are off and honestly I sprinkle nuts on my salads but don't really like to just snack on them and coconut oil--the only other recipes I have for it are snack/treats. When I charted our nutrition BACK when we were on granola and wheat flour, etc...my fat intake was ~15% of my calories (already a little low I think)---and now I guess maybe I should figure out how to up that intake (though we have been having more meat which has lots of fat)--could my low fat intake make there not be enough fat in my BM?

last thing you mentioned--my dd was huge born (son too)--could this be because of the gluten intolerance?! I did lose weight off gluten (my son finally gained some in a year) --but maybe this has to do with my DD too? as a good thing?!!

thanks for the fact about the head not growing--I didn't even look at the head measurements.

Maybe just try and up your fat now too? Trader Joe's has a GF granola full of nuts, its good too. Or buy GF oats and make your own. I got GF oats (6.99 a bag!) at our local health food store.

I learned about the gluten/inflammation on this thread about oversupply (I know that's not your issue, but that's where I read about it): http://www.mothering.com/discussions....php?t=1016716

I'd definitely try upping the fat in your diet & your dd's. We do a lot of coconut oil - cooking in it, in smoothies, even putting some on hot things like soup or tea and drinking it.

I recently saw recipes for 'rawnola' here: http://goneraw.com/ I think you could use buckwheat in place of oats?

what exactly does that mean? I've avoided the toxin/cleanse threads since my brain sometimes wants to bursts anyways...

do you mean that if you have a problem when you eat alot (wouldn't everyone have a diretic affect if they have a lot?!!) --and feel problems it IS a problem for you--or that you should just have small quantities..

my prob is that we don't have many sources for fat a little meat-mostly chicken--and then olive oil, flax oil, and coconut oil (some palm shortening)--and nuts too and beans- I guess that's a lot of sources--huh?!!
