I'm not sure where to post this question.

Now that it is colder, I want my 3.5 yr old in long pants and long sleeve shirts to sleep in (rather than just a T-shirt and a diaper).

Problem is, majority of pajamas out there have Flame retardants which I do not want.

I was looking at Organic pajamas online tonight Ecobaby long johns $29.99 but the prices are very high.

What do natural mamas do???

TARGET!
They don't label them as sleepwear, due to the legalityies of sleepwear (here anyway), but they do seel 100% cotton "loungewear" or long john sets. They are much cheaper than any of the catalogs that I have seen.

Thank you so much for the responses.

I have found some FR free PJs at Kmart (short sleeves & shorts though).

One of these days I'll get to
Target. But for now I'll order from Basic Brilliance

Busymommy, Hannah's Super Sleeper (with zipper) looks so cozy!!! But it says "flame resistant". I wonder if it's just a by-product of the material (100% polyester/microfleece) rather than something they add.

I love fleece... should I not wear it?

Carters makes pajamas that are meant to fit snugly. So do Gap and Old Navy. They are 100% cotton pajamas that are meant to fit snugly, so they don't have to have the flame-retardent chemicals added to them. You can also make your own; making pajamas for kids isn't difficult, they can be any pattern and style that you like, and you don't have to worry about mistakes because no one ever sees them but family.

Yes I have 1 Old Navy set ($14.99) that I bought for a test run. They are fine.

I also just took a 101 Sewing Class (my dream is to make home-made costumes of Storybook characters not found in stores) and just made him 1 pajama pants... gotta finish the pants seam and have him try it on.

No- polyester is definately not naturally flame resistent, the flame proofing is added. The only materials that are naturally flame resistent are natural ones- wool, and silk in particular. Cotton is not naturally flame resistent, however it does not melt (which is what synthetics do, and that causes really nasty burns- that's actually the reason they flame retard synthetic fiber sleepwear for children) so it's not as dangerous in a fire.

I have found 2 differant kind of 100% cotten PJ's. Both I have gotten at yard sales
so I dont know where to buy them. No fire retardent.

The first is Leapin'Lizards have at least 5 pairs in differant sizes and they wear so well, they are heavy cotten. I have then in shorts/short sleeves and in pants /long sleeves.

The second brand is High Sierra, they are alittle thinner but still nice.

My girls only wear 100% cotton pj's. Synethics drive me batty.

I have gotten the long john sets from WalMart also. They have work well.

OK... but it's not added to EVERYTHING right? Only if it's listed it's added, right? Just bought a Fleece jacket for DS at Old Navy tonight (and long johns
) 100% synthetic... sherpa type - very warm. It doesn't say Flame resistant. Should I return it????

I got a good deal on non-flame-retardant, 100% cotton sleep sets from Target. Cute frogs. You get two sets for something like 10 bucks. The brand is Circo.

I also use just plain t-shirts and elastic-waisted capri pants. I am really worried about the flame-retardant stuff. The chemicals used are known carcinogens from what I understand.

Thanks!

From Detente's link:

100% Polyester is often treated with Tris; However, there is no certain way to distinguish among 100% polyester fibers that are untreated, treated with tris, or treated with another flame-retardant chemical.

So basically, there really IS no way of knowing. I'll call corporate and see what they say, but my instincts are to return the cute jacket, just to be safe

Reassuring thing is that this washes out in the laundry after 3 times....
