Hi i am mama to a beautiful 14 m/o DD. She was born perfect. IMO when i started vaxing her everything went out the door. she got vaxed at 2 m/o and i stopped vaxing at 9 m/o. from the time she was 2 m/o - 1 y/o she was constantly sick to no end we were lucky to get a few days break between colds/viruses. she would always get sinus infections. she was EBF till 9 m/o and we are still BFing now.

since i stopped vaxing her shes been so much remarkably better. Shes been sick 2x in 4 months!!! that is seriously like a godsend for us.

so i havent been into homeopathy too much b/c i know nothing about it and i was told by her Dr shes too young to try things like that ect ect.

She just had a sinus infection and i was giving her the antibiotic ammoxicillan then i just kind of stopped it, which i guess is bad. she was ok for about a week but now shes all congested and runny nosed and coughing badly.

i gave her some echinacea b/c thats what the lady at WF said to give her lol. i know you mamas have a lot more insight than her certainly so would you please help?

i would kind of like some basics. what to give for

fever

cough

congestion

colds...

also any preventitive things i should do/give her for the winter season or to build her back up from those vaxes in the past?

i have seen some homeopathic cold remedies but they say 2y/o+ is that reality or do they just have to put that for some reason. the lady at WF said it would be fine but i mean idk i got scared.

Same experience here--my kids are so much healthier since we've stopped vaxxing.

Here are some things we use-

Black elderberry extract (Sambucus) mixed into a little water--great immune system booster

Sodium ascorbate (NOW brand)--this is a form of vitamin C that is great in times of illness. It is not really intended as an everday supplement, but rather something you use in times of sickness. Dosage varies (there are tons of thread on how to calculate dosage based on weight). Too much will cause some stomach cramping and/or loose stools, so we dose to bowel tolerance (just enough to be effective, not enough to cause loose stools). We start taking SA at the first sign of illness (sniffles, sneezing, cough, runny nose, sore throat). I mix into juice or lemonade and have the kids sip every few minutes. It is amazing how we can stop illness in its tracks with a little SA. Illness last only a few days rather than drag on for weeks like they used to. You won't find SA in stores--buy online. We get our stuff at www.iherb.com

Umcka Great for shortning the duration of a cold/respitory illness. Helps with sore throat, sneezing, runny nose, cough. Comes in liquid or chewable tablets. The dosage says not for kids under age 6 but I've used it with my lo since age 1 with no problems based on recommendations here on MDC.

Probiotics Very important for gut health, particularly after antibiotic use. Probiotics are the beneficial bacteria that reside in the gut--antibiotics destroy these along with the germs that cause illness. Recurring sinus infections are often fungal-because antibiotics only kill bacteria they are ineffective for fungal infections (and actually create the conditions that allow the fungus to proliferate). Probiotics will help with fungal problems.

Also, we don't treat fevers. Fevers are beneficial--they are the body's defense against germs that make us sick. Treating a fever takes away the body's built in mechanism for fighting germs. Sometimes fever reducers are helpful, like at night to help make a sick child more comfortable and able to sleep, we sometimes use them for that. But as far as dosing Tylenol every 4 hours to keep fever at bay, we don't do that anymore and I find that illness go away much sooner.

Edited to add: You might want to check out the huge thread on cell salts. I don't know much about them or homeopathy, but I've been reading and it seems like there are some people using cell salts to adress the congestion problem. It's very interesting.

Hope your lo feels better soon.

thank so much for the reply! i am happy to hear you're kids are doing better since you stopped vaxing too! i ended up geting a daily vitamin for her (that taste gross!!) and hylands cold and cough. i just did 3/4 of a tsp instead of a full one. this stuff works awesome!!!! omg her hacking cough was GONE after the first dose! shes still got the cold but i just gave her another dose and i feel like it will be subsiding soon.

i only "treat" a fever at night i am afraid of it spiking and for comfort. i actually picked up some fever and soreness stuff its homeopathic. i HATED giving her tylenol. its hard b/c the natural stuff all says 2+ on it. idk why they have to put that since it can't hurt them.
