15mo DD broke my nose!

She has smashed me in the face so many times.. particularly in the nose I can't even count. I'm pretty durable but saturday morning I was barely awake yet when she had one of her tantrums (some perceived slight... I have NO idea to this day what it was) where she flails her whole body backward. The back of her head come down on my nose breaking it nicely. DH cringes when remembering the sound it made. Spent the morning in the ER so they could tell me what I already knew of course. But it is lined up so it should be fine. Did I mention we are getting married in 6 weeks?

So, I was sleeping next to DD at night but now DH is but we put a long pillow between her and him! I want to go out and buy a hockey goalie mask to protect my painful nose from her. Her sleep is even more horrible now of course and it breaks my heart that she reaches to snuggle in the middle of the night but we can't lie down with her anymore. She is just too rough. I cannot deal with her bashing my face. I can barely pick her up normally anymore without turning my face away from her afraid of her insta-tantrums that seem to come without warning.

I know she has allergies and we are anxiously awaiting her NAET appointment in two weeks.. I'm praying that this will calm down but I don't know if I can ever sleep next to her again!

Oh no! Poor you. And I was just feeling sorry for myself the other day. My daughter loves playing with the alarm clock and hit me (clocked with the clock!) in the schnoz the other day, leaving a painful bump--but not broken.

I hope the allergies lead to some calm for her (and you).
Ouch...I hope you'll be okay...and I was just complaining about my son sticking his finger in my nose and giving me a nosebleed. I'm over it after reading your story.
Oh, hon, I'm so sorry - I hope it starts feeling better soon. DD has whacked me like that before, and I was sure she'd broken my nose, but luckily it never actually broke. I have the sorry feeling it happens more often than we know. Those little noggins are HARD.

In fact, I broke *my* mother's nose the same way at about the same age - sitting on her lap, I flung my head back and WHACK. The awful part is that a few years earlier, she'd been in a horrendous car accident and surgeons had to put her face back together, including rebuilding her nose. The additional trauma from me breaking her nose caused her upper teeth to abcess and she lost them, and she has had to wear a bridge ever since (she was about 25). How's that for guilt?
mama- hope it feels better soon!

Lady Madonna- yikes, I can only imagine-

Oh goodness I'm so sorry! I hope it heals up really quickly! My DD is also a physical kid so I get wacked all the time. I just pierced my nose on Sunday so I've become keenly aware of how many times a day I get wacked in the nose OUCH!

Wow... That is rough!

We've gone back to rocking her to sleep (or back to sleep when she wakes) so we can have a firm grip on her LOL rather than lying next to her and being a target. So far she has been ok with that although sometimes in the past she has objected to it which is why we changed to lying down with her instead of rocking.

I hope you heal fast. I can't believe we don't hear of things like this happening more often. I've had some painful head bonks, too, but no serious injury. My worst experience was ds suddenly stretching and inserting one of his fingers into my eye socket. I thought that was going to be a trip to the ER! It took about 3 days to be able to see properly and not have tears streaming out of that eye. I even took ds to the zoo that day, thinking it would be worse to deal with him at home, bored, while feeling bad. That was probably a mistake because my eye was so sensitive to the bright outdoor light and the wind.
Sorry mama!! I just wanted to add that my DS can be a rough sleeper too, and we started supplementing him with liquid magnesium at night and it has made a BIG difference.

omg, I am so sorry! Makes me laugh and remember when my now 3 year old was banging around in bed throwing a fit. My sister was visiting and he kicked me so hard above my eye, I thought he broke my skull!!! Within seconds literally, my eye and brow had swollen so bad I was unrecognizable. Probably should have had it looked at, think I had a concussion. We took lots of pictures so I can pull them out and show him when he is older!!!

Good luck, take care of yourself
ohhh yikes - poor you !
good luck with the allergy testing - I hope that it turns up something that you can work on to help her .......
Good luck with the wedding!

My dd sent my dh to the ER the other day as well...she hit him in the eye with a wooden spoon and cut his cornea! She'd sent me to the ER a few months ago for something similar (corneal abrasion...no spoon involved!).

And my best friend actually broke her own dad's nose TWICE! (he's short sighted, she was thrashy...not a good combo)
OUCH! I hope you feel better mama!
That's one of my biggest fears! DS can throw a tantrum with the best of them and when he does he stiffens up and flings himself backwards. When he's sitting in my lap, that backwards is right into my face. I've had some tender nose moments.

*hugs* I hope you feel better soon! I'm sure she'll get over this phase soon and you'll be able to snuggle her at night again.
Oh, mama! I'm so sorry to hear about your nose!

Will it be ok in time for the wedding??

It should be fine for the wedding... It really doesn't look like anything anyway. Only thing is that I have to keep Emery from hitting my nose between now and then! She already got me with a glancing blow once when she got annoyed at me and she knew she had done something NOT GOOD based on the look on her face. "We do NOT hit Mommy" is the new statement of the month.

OMG! Eye things are not good. Not good! And the other post about the scratched corneas?? I'm wondering if there should be a book written about how to avoid serious injuries when raising children without having to put them in cages that is! I've found that my reflexes have gotten a lot sharper than they used to be. The other night DD stirred in her sleep and I was wide awake instantly and sitting up cuz I was afraid that she was going to bash my face again!! LOL! I sleep with one eye open now. I can't help but laugh even though I'm really really tired.

I read your post to my dh, and we both have to say..
OUCH!!!!
My dd has done that, but no broken nose yet! Knock on wood...
I hope that your nose heals up before your wedding, and straight!
Oh I'm still cringeing...
((((healing waves, healing waves))))
Ohhhhh. I just wanted to say how sad I am for you. Get well soon.
