I need help. I dont know what to do.
My son been hitting a lot lately...I been teaching him to be gently...showing him to rub instead of hitting people. Now he hits and then makes a frown and puts hand over his mouth waiting for our response. He knows hes not supposed to do it. So is he trying to get attention?
He hits his sis a lot too and keeps going to her. Perhaps since she yells and he gets more attention from her?
I try to get her to respond in calm way too... tell him to hug instead ...then they do their hugging game which is so cute. One time though he would hit...then hug, hit then hug.
I also encourage my daughter to run away from him, or get him a ball or something. We show him to hit the drum, which he loves to do, or hit the couch. Apparently he needs to hit.
I have had to hide all the long toys and sticks (drumsticks, rattles, anything that was long). but he still finds things...parts of vacuum, the toilet plunger anything long...push toys, and will use that as hitting devices as well. Oh dear
On the average my son is very calm person... not the spirted child my daughter is. He is signing a lot and saying some words. So I am teaching him to say words like 'I am mad' (as I noticed there are time he is upset and then hits...if we dont give him the food right away or something). But not sure why hitting so much.
Thanks for tips. I am desperate for suggestions.
