Had my big level II scan today and my 18 week appt. I was pretty anxious leading up to today because I really haven't felt a whole lot of kicks - very occassional - but in the last few days I've felt a bunch of kick but always down low. I guess it turns out my placenta is anterior so on the front of my stomach- meaning the baby has to really kick hard for me to feel it.

The baby was pretty quiet during the scan and in a position with it's knees up and together and it's chin down so it was good we weren't looking for gender. It seemed to take forever for the tech to get all the heart pictures she needed but she told us that was because the baby's position was just very rounded. She tried several times to encourage the baby to turn over but the baby was in a very nappy state and seemed more annoyed than anything and would just occassionally kick it's legs out.

The appt went well too. I met with the head midwife and she answered a lot of my questions very directly. The last midwife I'd seen was very vague about testing in the 3rd tri and I had left a bit uneasy. What I really wanted to know was if they were going to treat me as high risk from 34 weeks onward if I did not have GD or PIH. She explained a lot about the higher risk for spontaneous still birth for women 40 and up but said that the highest stat is for first time moms and since I've had two completely full term/healthy deliveries already that the stat was still heightened but not as bad. This said she would recommend twice weekly non-stress test when I reach 39 weeks. I am okay with that so long as it isn't a total ploy to induce me. Thankfully DH is very onboard about only intervening when absolutely necessary and it would take a lot for us to jump on that. My other question was about GBS status. I had fast labors with DD1 and DD2. What she said is that regardless of whether I get the full abx they do a blood culture right after baby is born so tha if baby spikes a fever suddenly they are already one step ahead.

Overall I've gained 7 lbs over my normal weight which is really good for me. I usually have a hard time gaining- but have really been trying to keep my weight gain going as I am very petite and once baby is wedged under my ribs I have zero appetite. My next appt will be in about 5 weeks.

So glad the scan and appt went well and you got good, direct answers from the mw. I know what you mean about having little appetite as the baby takes up more room. It's comforting to see good gain early on :)
