Dd2 has been consistently using the potty for about a month. The catch is she has to be diaper free. So right now she is running around the house with a bare bum and I put a diaper on her when we go out, when I think she has to poop or she goes to sleep. She likes using the potty and rarely has an accident. I have tried putting some training underwear on her but she doesn't get it, she'll just sit on the potty and pee in them. I am a little worried that we will be stuck in this pattern for a long time and now it's getting chilly on that bare bum. What should I do? Keep going as is? Really try and teach underwear? Give up for a while and just keep a diaper on her so she's not cold?

going through the same thing! I just put her clothes on and carry a few extra pairs of pants with me where ever I go, put a cloth diaper on the car seat in case of accidents and clean up a lot of pee. She's more likely to make it to the potty in time for a poop than a pee. I think since she's already doing so well it would be a major step back to start putting her in diapers again. Just push on through it!

I went through this with my DD at the same age. For us it didn't last long and she finally got the hang of underwear. I would suggest some baby legs or knee high socks with the feet cut off on her legs and a good warm shirt while at home and diaper when you are out. My DD refused diapers at all after she started the potty. I was sneaking one on her at nap and night the discovered she was actually staying dry. Does she wake up wet from her naps or go pee after she wakes?I found with DD ( we cosleep ) that she would wake up and pee on the potty if I got her there when she woke up. We rarely had an accident.
Good luck.

My ds was like that when he started using the potty, too. For us the best way to transition from naked to clothes was to leave underwear as the very last thing. We started with rompers and pants with the crotch and legs unsnapped, graduated to loose sweatpants and pajama pants without underwear on underneath, and eventually underwear.

The girl I babysit had the same issue in the beginning as well so they did dresses. It was summer though--since it's getting cold out now I would do winter dresses with babylegs underneath. You can make your own by cutting the feet off adult knee socks. That's what we have (cheaper than buying actual babylegs) and they don't need to be hemmed and they have never frayed or unraveled in the wash.

DS had the same issue...he was just over 24 months when we started and it took him about a week to get the hang of the underwear....we really talked a lot about keeping it "clean and dry." He did the naked bottom half thing around the house and then, like the pp said, we did loose sweat pants and let him go "mando" (comando) but it really didn't take that long for him to master it....keep your little potty close by...we only use dipes for naps and have done that since the first day of pottying b/c i thought it would be better to be consistent and i don't really mind cleaning up pee so it was ok with me if he had a lot of accidents...

My dd was in a similar stage at a similar age. I bet it will not last as long as you think! She'll get the hang of the underwear soon. I totally agree: babylegs and maybe a dress (we have a nice fleece-y one) in the meantime!

I agree with the others, stick with it, she is showing good signs of progress so don't go back. We started the same way and just decided to go with and not look back. Amazingly, my son has taken really well to the undies, after a few accidents. He doesn't like how they feel, or the fact that I am disappointed in them. We have also lined his car seats with cloth diapers and keep changes of clothes and undies with us always. The on thing that has been an issue is sitting on the couch, so we have made it a habit that he HAS to sit on the potty and pee, if he wants to sit on the couch and watch a show or something. He has always done well if there is incentive, he he he. Good luck, sounds like you are moving right along!
