1st day CDing and I have a few questions...

I bought a huge stash of Fuzzi Bunz to use on my toddler and the new one in the way but I having a few problems already. Please help!

1) I stripped the used dipes I purchased but when I used them they are leaking and gave dd a rash. Here is how I stripped them: Hot wash with no soap, hot wash with a little Charlie's soap, cold wash with no soap. I air dried them. I had to do complete cycles since we use a laundromat. The leaking was not a problem with the new FB I have put on her so far. Any other suggestions for stripping so these used dipes don't go to waste?

2) What do you do about a diaper rash if you can't use diaper cream with CDs?

3) How tightly is the dipe supposed to fit around the thighs? There seems to be a smidge of room where her diaper is not completely touching her leg with the larges but she is too big for the medium size I bought. (I *think* she is around 25 lbs and is very tall so I tried the large size)

4) I want to wash in baking soda and tea tree/lavender oil sometimes. How often should I do that instead of Charlie's soap? How many drops of each oil do I put in? How much baking soda?

Other than the few dipes that leaked it seems to be going good...she seems to like them better than 'sposies - at least she's not taking them off like she did her 'sposies yet!
Thanks for listeneing!!!

When you say they leaked, are you sure? Is it possible that when she wee's the urine is just rolling right off the microfleece? Check by dribbling about 10mls of water onto the diaper to imitate your dd urinating. If the water rolls off rather than goes through the mf then you need to strip it using dawn. Put some dawn on the mf and scrub it both inside and out.

I will try that, thanks. I am pretty sure it leaked because her shorts were soaked around where her legs are and on her butt area. Can I use Method dish soap from Target? That's what I have on hand...Thanks again!
I'm wondering if the previous owner of the used FB's was having the same problems, and that's why she sold them? Besides doing the water test, you could turn them inside out and see if the fabric looks like the new ones you have. Maybe the waterproofness was ruined by something she washed them with, like bleach. I would try stripping them with Dawn. Use a toothbrush to really scrub them. Also, I have heard that drying them in a dryer sometimes will help seal the holes from where they were sewn together. Have you looked in the water when they're washing to see if there are any suds?

We haven't had any problems with diaper rash. Occasionally when DD looks a little red we put some cornstarch on her bum and give her some air time. You may find that since you switched to cloth, you don't need the diaper cream.

When we moved a size up, there was sometimes a little gap, but we just took the diaper off and redid it. Usually if you get it on them higher there's not a space. Are you using it on the closest snaps?

We use Simple Green and washing soda, so I don't know about the EOs.

i had some used ones that i had to strip. it took at least five hot washes with no detergent before i was sarisfied. it was mainly the inserts that were making the stink i think- hemparoos.

as far as gaping at the leg try experimenting with your snap settings

caldescene powder is what i used w dd. she was in sposies but i would think it would be fine w/ cloth. haven't had any rash w/ ds and he has been in cloth so maybe it will clear up.

some dc don't react well to the micro-fiber inner in fbs, you might try a liner if that seems to be the case for you.

good luck
There are plenty of wahms that make diaper cream safe to use with cloth diapers. I had to get some because dd was getting rashes no matter how often I changed her because of the heat. *I was not about to give her too much nekkid time because she is a SUPER SOAKER!!!
just scrub both sides of the fleece with dish soap (it releases the oils) and then rinse well. =)
What you did doesn't sound like stripping. Stripping involves washing with HOT repeatedly to remove all soap and detergent from the diapers. You would need to wash until you saw no more suds or detergent film on the water.

And that dripping water onto the fleece isn't going to tell you a darn thing - even a perfect diaper will show repelling because you aren't putting any pressure on the moisture to get it through the fleece.
