Great day out. Only spent $1 for tickets into a special part of the museum I hadn't counted on. I can handle that overage. LOL
I would really like to have dinner out, specifically, Mexican. But I'm relaxing on the couch for a moment to motivate myself to just make something delicious at home. I can do this.

This week:

$15 on two LED lightbulbs and a tire gauge.
$25 on Fiona's Advanced Spanish Grammar textbook for her upcoming course
$30 on a pair of bluetooth sport earbuds after yet another incident where I nearly pulled my laptop onto the floor by the wired earbuds while indoor cycling

Money-saving stuff this week:
  • Got my flat tire repaired for free because I didn't have to pay for hoist time (did the jacking up myself in the snow -- blech -- to get tire off and on again).
  • Have pretty much decided to do nothing much with the kitchen, although I'm starting to keep my eye open for deals on used cabinetry, appliances and fixtures for if/when we do the full reno.
  • I have found people willing to billet me on two occasions when I have to travel for (freelance) work, which will save me a couple of hundred dollars in motel costs
  • Downgraded Netflix to one screen. It's our only video service (no TV, airwave, cable, satellite or other) and our immediate family lives in five households most of the year, so $9/month (Canadian) is a sweet deal. I do cave in and upgrade to two screens over the winter holidays, hence the change back now. We will have to go back to vying for access to the one screen via our family Facebook group chat :lol .
  • Despite big dumps of cold snow, followed by warm days that makes it very heavy and difficult to move, we're managing to keep up with the shovelling and snow-blowing at both properties, so we haven't had to hire anyone yet this year.
  • Eating primarily out of the pantry and freezer, buying mostly just necessary fresh produce.

Really? That's a pretty impressively small tally. Other than food and some birthday stuff, it looks to me like you've spent less than a hundred bucks in half a month, and some of that was on things I'd consider absolutely necessities, like laundry. And it's not like you're single, or raising an only, either.

Are there things you're not tracking in your list that you want to be more frugal about? Like I don't know, clothing, food, transportation, educational resources, home maintenance? What are your areas of challenge?

Well not a frugal week. The last 5 days, I was very ill and in bed for 4 days with a high fever

DH handled everything from morning to night with a 3 and 5 year old so super proud of him. He did get a couple of large pizzas to have for a few dinners understandable

We are treating ourselves

Today, I am going to Micheals to grab some pencils crayons (We don't have any) and new coloring books for the kids. I'm also getting some marking pens, and tracing paper for sewing. DD wants me to make her barbie and MH clothes, so taking my scraps.

Something I did when my kids were younger and less able to take responsibility for their own out-and-about meals was to keep some food in a Hangry Box in the vehicle. Granola bars, fruit, squares, crackers, cut-up cheese, muffins, just an assortment depending on what will keep given ambient temperatures. One year we had two Christmas fruitcakes that rode around with us for a month or so until they got eaten up, and they were great because they were still soft and chewable even at subzero temperatures.

Nowadays our lives are predictably-scheduled enough that we seem to be able to mostly eat at home, or pack food for specific needs and not experience the temptation of grabbing something while we're out. We do eat at weird times, though! Dinner at 3:15 pm (because that's when we're home, briefly) feels very strange to me, when we have always been more of a 7 pm family.

$0 struck with a cough. I stayed home and so did DD1 who is under the weather too. :(

@ Miranda: that's a great story about the fruit cake. The hangry box is a good idea. I often try to have snacks on hand.

Last semester we had a mix of morning and afternoon classes. I've eliminated our afternoon classes, so now we can come home and eat and do bookwork afterwards. It's turned out to be less stressful, and no one is complaining about our new schedule.
