2nd carseat question...

479 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  JamesMama
We have an older mini-van with only 3 doors (pass side slide only) so getting James and the new baby into the middle row, or rather getting them out will be a trick.

So DH and I were thinking of putting James in the way back seat, right closest to the door so I can reach back and grab him, and then putting the baby in the middle seat closest to the door (that path way is there, so techanlly s/he will be in the middle)

Is that safe? Having James in the way back? It's either that or figuring out how to get James over the infant seat to get him out of the car...

You have 2 choices as I see it. If I understand you correctly, you have a middle row bench seat and then a bench seat in the 3rd row? Can you put James in the 2nd row center seat and the carrier at the driver side outboard position? James could go in first and then once you situate him, you can pop the carrier in and go. OR, putting James (as long as you can reach him to get him installed) in the third row center seat with the infant carrier 2nd row center would be ok. Not optimal, but ok. Is James still RF? And I just re-read but you said a path? This must mean you have captains chairs type set up somewhere?

It's bench seating, but there is a 2 foot space between the 2nd row and the door so that you can get back to the 3rd row.

I could put James in the drivers side but it's the concept of getting him across the infant seat and into the carset and buckeling him in...he's so tall being RF was actually hurting his legs so he's foward facing now (at 28lbs...37in...he's all legs like his dad). I'm pretty sure if I put James seat in the 3rd row center I could still reach him, then put the baby in the 2nd row closest to the door (like I said there is a 2 foot gap between door and seat) but then I have the issue of not being able to reach him if I need to while I'm driving.

I wish we could buy a new van, one with 4 doors but financially right now it's not feesable...if we were going to buy a new vechical we'd have to buy one for DH since his car is in the process of breaking down.

I will have to see how big the base is to see if I can pop the carrier out, reach across and unbuckle James, help him down and out, pull the baby out of the carrier (since we leave the bucket in the car) and then put the carrier back in the base...and reverse it to get in the van.
