Ok, I am just wondering if anyone can tell me what this annotation on my US means. I know the picture where it is annotated at was of the umbilical cord insertion into the baby and around the organ it inserts next to.

I am no longer pregnant, and no one at the OB's office ever told me anything, even though I kept asking. I have tried to google it and do web research, but nothing.

This was also annotated in the US tech's personal notes at the end of the US.

I know I asked when I was pregnant, but cannot find the post to see what the responses were.

Thanks, again.

It means two vessel cord insertion. Typically, cords have three vessels - two arteries and a vein. The vast majority of the time, either the ultrasounds are wrong or the two vessel cord is a normal variation.

Thanks, that is what I was trying to figure out. Nothing was ever said to me during the pregnancy..and now I think I might have an issue with my care...

1) I was never told about this...
2) I know my child's growth slowed down significantly between my 31 week and 35 week US. At 31 weeks, she was measuring 2 w 5 d ahead. At 35 weeks she wasonly measuring 4 d ahead. Weight wise, she was significantly smaller than my previous two children. Even though they were both a bit longer in womb, she was almost 2 pounds smaller than my first child and 1 inch smaller and she was 2 pounds 9 ounces smaller than my second child weight wise, but only 1/4 inch smallerheight wise.

*sigh* Now I am mad at myself. Had I known about this, I would have pushed them to do something at 39 weeks when they couldn't tell if her head was at a downward angle (but not in a straight up/down/engaged type position) or if it was her buttom down there. Something was telling me I should push the people to schedule a version that day.

Everything I had read when I suspected this told me that things should be done differently if I really did have this....but nothing was done different.

Well, it sounds like her growth was normal, not something to be worried about or even a cause of the cord issue. Our babies, like adults, grow at different rates and the measurements - either by a tape measure or by ultrasound - do not take these things into account. I wouldn't beat yourself up about this...it sounds like the two are not likely related.

I don't know what could have been done differently, aside from forcing your baby out early and then living in a plastic box isolated from touch and attachment. Even then, I doubt any sane doc would do this without good reason.
