i have been trying to brainstorm how i am going to arrange my kids in an SUV we are buying.

the SUV has 2 seats in the 2nd row and 2 seats in the 3d row. each seat has LATCH (yes, i know this for a fact).

there is space between the 2 2nd row seats, and those seats move forwardand back easily.

2 car seats will be rear facing. the older child is 10.

i hate for anyone to be alone in the 3d row.

also there is the lure of the dvds in the headrest, esp for the 10 yo.

has anyone come up w solution for 2 yo rf'ing to watch movies on a long trip?

I really wouldn't worry about the 10 year old being "alone" in the back seat. Make it "their" space.

But personally I would put the rear facing in the 2nd row captian's chair. The 10 year old in the other one, and put the other carseat in in the middle of the back one. This way if either child needs help the 10 year old can assist or move a lot faster.

There is no 'middle seat' in either row. only 2 rows per seat.

both car seats will be rf'ing....the kids in these seats will be a newborn and a 2 year, 10 month old.

so, kid line up (now that i have 2 hands to work with)

10 yo
2 year, 10 month old
newborn

2 RF'ing Blvds (my kids are big, all over 8 lbs. at birth, so the blvd. is good for our newborn..or will be when time comes)

first, I do want to say I don't think your newborn will fit in a BV at birth. I have seen tons of pictures of newborns "fitting" in britax convertible seats, but none of them REALLY fit, and it's pretty scary how poorly most of them fit. My middle child was 8lb 10oz at birth and he didn't fit properly in a marathon until he was 4 months. so, you may want to rethink your decision. the bottom slots are 10" which is REALLY high.

i would put the baby behnd the drivers seat, the 2yo in the back row behind the baby, and the 10yo beside the 2yo. that way you can fold the other middle seat down for easy in and out.

my 2 yo fit great at birth..he was 8.4. i think babies are all different..i guess i just have tall kids but i wouldnt put him/her in teh seat if he/she didnt fit well. actually, my youngest was in a Marathon at birth, not a blvd. but we have 2 blvds. now and I think the blvd. looks more comfy for a newborn than the marathon. im sure others babies didnt fit but mine was snug as a bug and everythign was in accordance with teh manual. I do appreciate the word of caution, though.

there is access b/w the 2 seats in the 2nd row so i wont have to put the seat down.

I have decided that the 10 year old will now be in a Monarch, since learning that the 3d row is going to be the "least safe" part of the vehicle. he fits the criteria for not being in a seat; however, i think he will enjoy the Monarch and it will of course be safer than no seat at all.

we pick up the car on 3/25 so we definitely have time to consider all of this.
