I cam down with a cold last night....head and body aches, sore throat, and fever...i am allergic to NSAIDS and tylenol, so I never take anything when I get sick. 3 month old dd nursed 3 times during the night and 2 times in the am (6:15 and 9:15). She woke up at 11 ish and i offered her the breast...she willingly took it and sicked and sucked, and my milk never let down. I havent ever had this problem before. She was pulling off the breast and crying. I was able to hand express a few drops...so I am not sure why no let down. She fell right back asleep so I figured that she was just tired and I let her sleep. My strategy was to kind of dream feed her as she slept, but that didnt work. So, finally I pumped (only got about .5 oz eahc side, but I never have responded well to the pump). Fed her 2 5 ml droppers of expressed meilk, and then put her to the breast, which she took avidly, but again, not let down. GAve her 2 more dropperfuls, pumped again until I got let down and then put her immediatelhy to the breast, which she refused! Please help...this is my 3rd baby and I have never had these probs before! ANy advice greatly appreciated!

Hang in there, Mama! Perhaps your baby is getting sick, and that's what's causing her nursing issues? A sore throat or an upset tum can definitely make a baby reluctant to nurse.

Keep on doing what you're doing, and make sure you hydrate yourself! I hope things get better soon.

Drinking cow's milk will not increase your supply more than any other fluid - drink fluids to your need and do try and find the motherlove tea which WILL increase your supply, this may have provoked a little nursing strike - just keep offering as much as possible, can you go to a LLL meeting for a little support.

Thanks for all of the advice mammas! She is back to her normal nursing pattern now (actually a little more often) and everything is going great.....it turns out I had a really bad case of tonsilitis and so, my throat is still sore and staying hydrated has been a real challenge, bc I literally dont want to swallow anything, but i did get down some oatmeal and a good bit of milk tea....and i have never heard of cows milk increasing supply before, but I am vegan, so.....

the bad news is that, I had her weighted today at the peds and she lost 5 ounces...I am going to bring her back on monday and do another weight check....they reassured me not to worry because she has started nursing normally again, but still you HATE to see that weight loss!
