My almost 3 year old has been the best sleeper ever for the most part. I know how lucky I am. For the past couple of nights he has not wanted to go to bed so I lay with him in our bed until he goes to sleep, and then put him in his bed where he sleeps for a good 12 hours with no problems. I talked to him tonight about why he suddenly doesn't want to go to bed, and he said it's b/c he's scared there are bears in his closet. he was very matter of fact about it, that I almost laughed. He is really interested in bears right now, and we've been talking about their habitat, so he knows that bears would not live in our house, but I guess at night he just gets a little irrational. I also told him that if he gets scared, he can always call out for us and we will be right there.

Any other tips for calming irrational fears? I'm afraid to give him a flashlight b/c then he will never go to sleep.

How about some "bear spray"? Fill a spray bottle with water and spray it in his closet...that will keep the bears out of there. Or a new teddy bear that is very friendly and can talk to the other bears, telling them to stay out. Good luck!
