34 pound 3 1/2 yr old who wants to be carried

That's my DD. She still likes to be carried and is probably too heavy for her maya wrap. So any suggestions for hip or back carriers?

I carry my 5 year old in an ABC on my back and there are a LOT of different kinds to choose from!
I use both a Kozy Carrier and an Ellaroo wrap carrier to carry my 38 lb. 3 1/2-year-old on my back (and sometimes on my front or hip with the Ellaroo).

They both work really well for us. He seems to like the Ellaroo more.

Sorry to be so dense but what is an ABC?
Thanks
How long does it take to get your son secured and then down? It looked kind of complicated and Lyndsey can be a real wiggly worm.
I would definitely go with an ABC or wrap if she likes to be carried long enough for it to be worth tying on. BUT maybe an Ergo would be quicker since it has buckles? Anyone concur?
I can still easily wear my 35 lb toddler in the hip carry in my OTSBH. It has a very deep pocket. Maybe you need a larger size sling to accommodate a bigger baby. I like the quickness and ease of a ring sling with a toddler. They dart away so quickly, and often I want to put him in as we're getting ready to go in the library or run an errand. I personally don't want to mess with tying/buckling if I don't have to.
Kozy for us - my 3 yo ds (34lbs.) begs to hop in
It's pretty easy to put a big kid in.

I have a maya wrap and can still carry her in it. My problem is that it has the thinner rings and I was concerned about her weight.

Thanks

Same here. (except I have a 33 lb 2.5yo)

I don't think you have anything to worry about here, mama. If the rings aren't slipping and the fabric is still fully intact (check all the stitching at the shoulder area), you should be able to carry her for a long time to come in the Maya.

I bought a used maya about a year after the recall and e-mailed mayawrap about the rings and sure enough they were part of the recall. They just had me send the sling in (they paid postage even) and put the new rings in and sent it back to me. Give them an e-mail I have always had awesome customer service from them. Another example my main maya was part of the recall as well (this was before I bought the used one) and my dd was 6 months and insanely high needs. I called to see if there was any other option then being without my sling for 1-2 weeks and the owner sent me a maya that she had used for pictures first so I could use that when I sent my sling to be fixed. She even paid all postage. I
mayawrap

Point being e-mail mayawrap they are awesome and I really believe they will help you you.

About a week or so ago, I took the rings out of my Mayawrap and finished that end, thus turning it into a shawl. It was sort of a minor milestone, considering that we haven't regularly used it since before last year.

I used it today to carry 43 pound, 5 yr old DD on my back during the hike back to our car--parked about as far as it was possible to be parked at the airshow. DH got her on my back, then made sure the sling went under her butt as I tied it in front and going over both shoulders. It was more for arm relief and security than for sheer weightbearing.

Before that it kept me cozy when the wind and clouds dropped the temperatures rather more than was strictly comfortable.

** just wanted to pop in with a little sympathy.

my almost-four-year-old (who weighs 40 lbs) recently started wanting to be held 24/7 (well, ok, while he's awake ~ when he's asleep he just wants me to lay next to him and hold him
) ~ pretty hard to do while 9 1/2 months pregnant. his daddy carries him often but refuses to use the sling.

I'll keep saying a Kozy or other ABC with an added no sew buckle for the waist. I love it!
I *can* carry my 35 pound DS on my back with the ABC that I made, but not for long. He's too tall and heavy for me and I don't think that changing the kind of carrier would help! I don't know how you guys do it!
I use my abc or a gauze wrap. The abc is quicker for me to get on, but I find the wrap easier to get ds on my back. Ds is 32lbs now and tall. I like the back wrap cross carry with chest belt or the japenese carry with the layers spread across his bum to make a seat.

You can see the carries at www.mamatoto.org
