okay, I may be overreacting here....but my dd is sleeping on her side with her face pressed against the mattress. She's got one nostril exposed. She's in our bed, right next to me, so I keep putting my hand on her back to make sure she's breathing. A little while ago I flipped her onto her back (normally how she sleeps) and she got herself right back in the same position. She has rolled over in both directions.

Should I still insist she sleep on her back or can I stop worrying so much?

Thanks!!!!!

I think you can stop worrying and allow her to sleep however she's most comfortable. My ds is 4.5 months also and has been a tummy sleeper since birth.

My dd is 4 mons old and I've been putting her to sleep on her tummy since she was 3 mons old. Now she rolls over onto her tummy to sleep if on her back. Sometimes she will sleep with her face pressed into the bed or wherever she is sleeping. I just trust that if she could not breath she would move, which she does. I wouldn't worry about it but I have to confess that I do make sure that my dd is still breathing sometimes, it's a mommy thing.

my DS likes to sleep face down as well. He's been a tummy sleeper since birth and usually keeps his face to the side, but every once in a while I'll find him face down. Scares me, but he seems to like it. I make sure his back/chest is moving and then leave him alone.

DS does that sometimes too. She'll be fine, I would just periodically check on her.

Oh, I have a tummy sleeper too. Ben loves that ol' face-in-the-mattress snuggle sleeping. It drove me crazy the first few months (I mean, the kid would manage to get on his belly when he was 8 weeks old!), and now I just roll with it. I make sure our pillows are out of his way, and he is happy as a clam.

3 tummy sleepers from birth here too - and even I sleep with my face pressed into the mattress. A baby will NOT self-suffocate (just lay there and not move their head to breathe). You're fine!
