i got some hand-me-down fluff
- and i've now put it through four full cycles on the washer without adding anything, and i'm still getting bubbles at the end of the cycle.
will the bubbles ever end?!?!?!? how did this happen? is there something else i should be doing? oh great diaper experts, please help me.

Turn up your water heater all the way, lower the water level til there is just enough, and add calgon if you have it. Then let the agitation beat the detergent out. I run just the wash portion until I think the bubbles are gone. I leave the lid up so the machine agitates but doesn't drain and rinse, so I can check on bubbles without having to stand next to the washer. Then I put the lid down so it drains and reset.

Thanks to my hard water I feel like an expert in stripping.
I'd rather not know so much, honestly.

so you let it beat it out and keep it in that wash cycle until they are gone, or you're saying you leave the lid up so you can check the suds before deciding whether it needs a reset?

I have this problem too, but it seems to get worse and worse with the more rinse cycles I do. (in one session. suds will go from "a lot" to "holy mother...")

To check the suds and to keep it from finishing the cycle. There is so much more agitation in the wash portion than the rinse, that it is faster and saves water to just repeat the wash over and over than to wash, rinse, wash, rinse.

I would love a washing machine that let me program the exact cycle that I wanted rather than to try to work within the limits of what some designer thought I needed, you know?

That IS different, hopefully someone with a front loader will chime in on the thread and give you more help.

I tried buying some used diapers but I hate the work of getting them clean. We have really soft water and a front loader and it is a PITA to strip. Anyway, I set to a short hot wash and let it go until it drains and does a spin. Right before it starts to add the rinse water I re-set to another hot wash and just keep going until there are no bubbles. I think it helps to add enough water so it actually swishes around a little. I use a bucket and poor it into the drawer but I know all FLs won't let you do this. I know it may seem like forveer but the bubbles will eventually disappear.
