I miscarried a few days before Christmas and on Jan 26th, tested positive on a HPT. Since I never really had a period (just the miscarriage), they drew blood and looked at my HCG numbers. They were slow to go up, but did eventually go up to where they should be.

On Feb 2nd the doc estimated me at 5 weeks along based on my HCG numbers. The following week, I had an ultrasound and they couldn't even confirm the pregnancy was in my uterus (they were worried about eptopic) and the ultrasound lady said she figured I was about 5 weeks and that it was so early the computer couldn't even date me. So I went back today (1 week 1 day after the last ultrasound) and the ultrasound tech (a different one) said my gestational sac was beautiful and looked very healthy and measured exactly 5 weeks. ???? I don't get it. How can I have tested positive 20 days ago (nearly 3 weeks ago) and be only 5 weeks now? That would mean I ovulated around the 26th, which NEVER would have showed a positive pregnancy test.

I'm confused and still worried. Tell me that it is all okay and my belly bean is healthy....

is it possible that your positive hpt on the 26th was because of the previous miscarriage? sometimes it takes awhile for the hcg to drop below what an hpt would detect. just a thought.

No...They followed my HGC levels down to 0. This is definately a new pregnancy. The nurse just called me and said that they can't really explain why I'm not showing further along, but that between the 1st and 2nd ultrasound, there is definate growth (since they couldn't for sure say they saw much the 1st one) and everything looks great. They said I should come back for another ultrasound in 2 weeks and we should definitely see a heart beat. I pray that we do....

But you would have been able to see a hearbeat by 7 weeks. It sounds like right now it's just a waiting game. Good luck and please update us!!
