i am sure there are threads like this already out there but honestly i am too tired to search through them all.....ds is 7months old and will not go to sleep at night........

within the past week we have moved, dp left for a few months, i took medication for worms, and ds has a cold....so i know that these crazy factors are almost definitely responsible for this change in his schedule (before he was go to sleep between 9 and 11 and although he would wake up to eat periodically (frequently really but that's a whole other problem!) he was down for the night. now, his naps have been completely erratic, yesterday one three and a half hour nap from 1230-4 and then twenty minutes at 7, 30 minutes at 930 and then up til 230. the day before that he took an hour nap in the morning and then 30 minutes in the evening and then up until 2. he will sleep until 11 or so in the morning but i have to get up with older ds at 830. six hours might be enough if it was solid sleep but ds wakes to nurse every couple of hours.

i have tried many things to get him to sleep, nursing, bottles, walking, bouncing, letting him stay up, leaving him alone in bed, nothing works (or he will fall asleep for a few minutes and then wake back up), and as the night wears on i become frustrated and then he gets upset....nursing will pacify him but not make him go to sleep and i can't nurse all night long (it hurts me) and eventually he just starts thrashing at the breast becoming more restless. then i try all of the above listed things again until eventually around 2 he gives up and falls asleep.

other factors i have considered are food sensitivities, he takes some formula (i don't make enough milk for him, long story), he is eating solids but nothing new lately, maybe he would sleep better by himself?

what am i missing? what else can i try? i am feeling sleep deprived and desperate....any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I am SOOOO with you right now.

DS 7 months had been sleeping through the night until he was almost 5 months old. For the past 8 weeks he's been impossible to put down and wakes every two hours to eat.

DP and I walk through life in a sleep deprived haze.

Last night I nursed him around 3:00 and put him back down in his crib. He was NOT going for it.

I checked his diaper again and then in desperation I put a Halo sleeper over his sleeper so he'd be warmer. (We keep the house cool, but have a small space heater in his room to keep it warmer for him when he sleeps)

This worked like a charm! He slept for FOUR whole hours before he got up again! (I had to get up in two hours - but it still was an improvement for him)

We're going to try the warmer route tonight with him from the start and see if he was just feeling a little chilly.

This brings up another question for me - when can we introduce blankets in the crib/bed? I've never had a spring baby.
