I had all intentions of having a natural birth center birth...

Friday night I started having cramps, by Sat I decided I shouldn't drive anywhere and called my midwives to tell them about the contractions, they told me to just drink some wine and take a hot bath. I did that and was up with contractions all night. I had contractions all day Sunday, called the midwives again, they said drink some wine and have a hot bath, did that and started throwing up. I was up all night again with contractions. Monday morning, totally exhausted, I asked my husband not to go to work and said that I thought I should go to the birth center. So, 9am-12 days early, we went to the birth center. barely dialated, daughter sunny side up, my contractions were intense, back labor, puking, in and out of the tub, acupuncture, didn't want any music or food, 12 hours of intense labor later, still only 3cm dialated, they broke my water. Exhausted, pain too much to handle, they started calling hospitals and nobody would take a midwife transfer. We ended up having to drive for 45 minutes to a hospital that would take us. The ride was painful, my husband drove, I was bent over the back seat with my mom applying counter pressure, which I asked for every contraction, I had bruises from it when all was over.

We got to the hospital at 8pm and didnt' get the epidural till midnight. Family was all in the waiting room, I didn't want to see anybody until the epidural. Then I invited them all in. Said good night they, including my midwife, her assistant, my mom, dad and sister, slept in the waiting room. My hubby slept in my room. I was awake shaking through every contraction throught the morning. At 5am I insisted on pushing the epidural wore off and I wanted to stand/squat and push. They said I wouldn't be able to, but I sure could and did. Sara, my daughter, was trying to turn right side up, she came out with her shoulders across instead of up and down, not quite righted. She was born at 7:47 after nearly 3 hours of pushing. I tore up and had to be stitched up, at that moment I said that my sis could come in. I knew she'd be horrified, she had 2 kids with ease, no tearing or drama. She was pretty grossed out~=) Sara was wisked away and given oxygen. One good thing about the hospital was the room service, lactation consultant that even came to my home, and as much food as I could eat and I was sooo hungry! Not exactly the delivery that I had intended. It also took us 5 days to get her latched on, but she ended up nursing for 2yrs and 3 months. She's now a happy and healthy, firey little 3 1/2 yr old.

Yes, I'm curious as well. I've delivered two babies in the Seattle area, and I was not under the impression that we have hospitals here that would not accept midwife transfers.
