My 9 month old dd has just begun eating little bits of solid foood. The problem is that she also does this sucking in air thing when she is excited about somthing ( like when she is eating) . It's kind of like inhaling really deeply and it makes a loud wheezing noise. She does this while eating constantly, with a mouthfull of food, and it is SO terrifying. I keep thinking she will inhale food and choke at any momment.

Should I cease feeding her any solids at all until she outgrows this ? Do any of you have kids that do this ? Please advise ....

If she is enjoying the solids and is not chocking I would not worry about it. I would think the first couple of times she chocked she would figure out on her own why she is chocking and stop inhaling.

My 10mo dd does this too. She wrinkles up her nose, grins, and sucks air in while she "laughs" with a mouthful.

DH and I look away from her and talk to each other when she does this, in the hopes that she'll realize she can't get our attention that way. Sometimes it works, sometimes not.

It doesn't help that she's so freakin' adorable when she does it...

A couple of my kids have done this, but it doesn't seem to cause a problem at least most of the time.
