I have posted a few times about our minivan which needs a transmission - it totally died yesterday, and we were all set to go out looking for a new car today. We planned to look for something fuel efficient and small, but we'd have to either borrow money or refi our house to get it.

Inlaws called last night and offered to GIVE us the minivan they inherited from Grandpa's estate - they told us they wanted to help us out and they thought not having a car payment for awhile would be helpful.

It's not what we would buy - it;s a totally basic (like no power ANYTHING) small-body minivan - I think a 1999 with 45K miles. It won't solve our $400-month gas issue, but for not having a car payment, it's certainly the way to go. Even if we just use it for a year or two until we have saved some money to A) pay off our other new car and B)pay for a "new" commuter car.

So we had an early xmas gift this year - just when we needed it.
