I am trying to find a home for a dog I rescued a year and a half ago. I can't stand the dog anymore and my dh has hated her since we got her. She's very sweet, but just way too hyper for our taste. I picked her up on the side of the road with every intention of finding a new home for her. She was formally abused and I've rehabilitated her. I've trained her, house broken her, etc...
BUT, I cannot find a home for her! I have been asking $50 because I don't want her to go to someone that can't afford that small fee. I figure, if you can't afford $50 to buy the dog, you really can't afford to take care of her right.
: Am I mean for doing that?
What can I do to make her find a great home? I've been telling everyone she must go to an inside, gentle, non-hitting household. I had one guy that was perfect, but he flaked at the last minute. Anybody on here want her? :LOL She really is a great dog, but I just really can't keep her anymore. She's a Min-Pin with a perfect body.
I believe she was once a breeder dog because she meets all the standards and she's had at least one litter before. I'm guessing she's around 3-4 years old.
Seriously, what can I do to make someone want her? I can't have her after the 25th of June.

well if you arent charging $$ for your own profit, what if you donate that money to a shelter?

how are you describing her to people? are you starting off with "i cant stand her" ? cuz that aint a strong selling point :LOL

what if you put an ad in the paper saying you fostered a dog and rehabilitated it and its ready to be adopted. ?

that might help with the view of her.

what about a specific min. pin. rescue? They may want her OR have an idea of someone who might....

Or maybe put up an add at the vets bulatin board, at least it'll increase the odds of a good home to a responsible dog owner..................

good luck!

That's actually what I'm planning on doing and have been saying so as well.

Umm. I say that she's very sweet and wonderful with children. She's a wonderful dog, just not for me.

The only Min-Pin rescue I called charged quite a bit to take her and I couldn't afford it. It was a forced donation.

Its awesome that you trained her, rehabilitated her and all that. Hopefully the right people will come. May I ask why u have to have her out by 25 of June? (just curious. if its none of my business say so.

Honestly, I'd stop trying to charge for her. As a responsible and good dog owner--I get offered freebies all the time--so I'd never pay for a "rescue"
So while I agree you are totally not out of line asking money for her--I'd probably stop listening when I heard $50.00--that said though--around here, small dogs are VERY hard to come by and are seldom in the pound longer than 24 hrs and even then only if something is very wrong with them.

Wow I'm surprised nobody wants her considering she's a min pin, I thought that was a popular breed. I love small breed dogs, if I was close to you and allowed to have pets by my landlord I would totally go for it. Our local animal shelter has the same mindset, they ask for a 50 fee because they figure if someone gets a dog for free they won't be as likely to keep them for a long time or take good care of them. I'm not quite sure what I think about this mindset. I understand it in theory but there are responsible and sweet pet owners out there who will take good care of a pet but simply can't afford 50. I only spent 10 a month on my dog for food so it's not the same thing. Be patient. Put posters up around the neighborhood and on the store bulletin boards. If you decide to give her away for free you can place ads in most papers for free at least once. Just try to find someone that gives you a good vibe and hope for the best.
