So last night after I was done with the Childbirth Collective (doula group that teaches about natural childbirth) I started walking to the coffee shop with my friends/doulas. There was this brand new doula with us, and about halfway there, she turns to me and says, "Are you the nocirc doula"? I almost said yes, and then I though maybe the organization has a doula, and then I thought that "I" should be there doula...basically overthinking it. My friends started laughing as I was saying yes and no at the same time. They said "YES, she is the nocirc doula"! She told me that three years ago she was pregnant with her son, and I was the only doula she called. (She didn't end up having a doula because of her husband) I told her about my stance and all about circumcision and that it was wrong. She had never even thought about it, but her husband was very opposed to not having it done. She worked on him about it for the rest of the pregnancy, showing him his scar and talking about all of the nerve endings that would be gone forever. Anyway, THEY LEFT THEIR SON INTACT!!! And I never even knew until last night!

Yay!

Aww that's awesome. How nice to have touched someone's life in such a meaningful way!

You would be surprised (or maybe not) at how many of my friends said they circumcised their son because they never really thought about it either way. By the time I discuss it with them, it's usually way after the fact.

Seriously, you should have seen Sarah's face for the rest of the night. Glowing.
: <-------Kinda like that

it was priceless. We were sitting at the table with a total of 13 kids, and all of them were intact (mostly girls, but still. I'm working on saying that both of my kids are intact to call attention to the double standard).

You've made my day with your posts, Sarah and Rebecca. I was a mw for 17 years and I always put it out straight how against circumcision I was. I didn't know half of what I know now but I just couldn't see any point in working my butt off to have a beautiful, peaceful, welcoming birth for a baby and then cut his body a few days later!!

Once, I was criticized by a dr for recommending a couple keep their son intact and it turned out they were Muslim and did not appreciate me discussing it with them. That took the wind out of my sails a bit and made me think twice about stepping on the toes of religions. That's my regret now, that I wasn't more bold and outspoken publicly before this (just assertive with my clients, friends and family). That I let a dr intimidate me into not sticking up for innocent boys of EVERY religion. I'm sharing this because you may run into the same kind of criticisms and PLEASE don't let it stop you. You made a big difference in that boy's life and who knows how the ripples of the pond go out into the world?! C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S

I like the idea of mentioning that they are both intact.... that makes a lot of sense and may cause people to stop and think about it

love and peace.
