Hi ladies. We are going to start trying to concieve later this year and I'd like to start looking into home birthing options now. I had my ds in the hospital as per his dads wishes (he didn't even show up for the birth), I really didn't enjoy it and don't want to put myself through it again if I don't have to. This time my partner says it doesn't matter to him where I birth. My mom had had all but 2 of me and my 8 siblings at home. I really want my next birthing experience to be on my terms, KWIM.
So my question is for the different HB choice and the pros and cons of each. I'd love to hear some first hand experince as well.

Do you mean things like homebirth vs birthing centres? Or do you mean things like water birth vs dry birth etc..

I'm not sure that if you plan a homebirth, that you can necessarily say, "I'm having a water birth" or whatever. It depends on how you feel at the time you're birthing. So all you can really decide is to have a homebirth, and go from there.

I had a homebirth 3.5 years ago, and am planning another in Sept. It was awesome and everything I had imagined it would be. Calm, peaceful, not very painful, and the pleasure of being home, doing what I wanted when I wanted, and being able to sleep with dh and babe in the same bed a few hours after giving birth was priceless.

I had both mine at home - the first on land & the second in the water, although I labored almost exclusively in the water with both. The water made a pretty big difference for me - I think more so with the first birth which had time for contractions to get stronger (my 2nd birth was just extremely fast & intense from the get-go). Anyway, I don't really see any downsides to a waterbirth unless it just doesn't work for you once you're in labor. But I think for most women it does. I think a pro is that it helps soften tissues to prevent or reduce tearing. My opinion is to have all options available to you & choose at the time whatever works best.
