Anyone have a favorite veggie burger recipe they'd be willing to share?

Hi.

I have never tried to make these, but I'll post the recipe for you and if you like you can try it.

Lentil Burgers in Pita

Burgers:
1/2 dry lentils
1/2 C. raw brown rice
1 onion chopped
1 T. oil
2 C. liquid ( water or stock)
1/2 C tomato juice
1 T. tamari soy sauce
1 tomato, diced
1 carrot, sliced
1 stalk celery, sliced
wheat germ
dry milk powder (optional)
oil for frying

"fixings"

pita bread
lettuce, shredded
onions, thinly sliced
tomatoes, sliced
cheese, sliced
catsup

Put lentils, rice, onion, oil and liquids into 2-quart pot. Bring to a boil, cover adn simmer 30 minutes. Add vegetables. Bring to a boil, cover and simmer 30 minutes longer.

Mash the stew, shape into patties, attain proper consistency by adding liquid or wheat germ and dry milk. Coat patties with wheat germ. Brown in hot oil 5 minutes per side. Tuck inside pita, serve with fixings.

This came from an old LLL cookbook, Whole Foods for the Whole family circa late 80s. Wheat germ was big back then.

This is like sloppy joes, only veg. I haven't tried this one either, but plan to, cuz it looks good.

Sounds kind of delicious keep the ingredients coming.
I like this one from Companies Coming:
Cracked wheat 1/2 cup
Bulgur 1/3 cup
Salt 1/2 tsp
Boiling water 1 1/2 cups

Canola oil 1 tbsp
Chopped fresh white mushrooms 3 cups
Finely chopped oinion 1 cup
Finely chopped celery 1/4 cup
Finely chopped leek (white part only)
Garlic clove, minced 1
Raw cashews 1/2 cup
Large egg 1
Fine dry whole wheat bread crumbs 1 cup

Salt
Pepper

Cooking spray

preparation

Combine first 3 ingredients in med. heatproof bowl. Add boiling water, stir. Let stand, covered, for 30 mins until bulgur and wheat are tender. Drain well. Transfer to large bowl.

Heat canola oil in large frying pan on medium. Add next 5 ingredients. Cook for 15 mins, stirring occasionally, until veggies start to brown and liquid is evaporated. Cool.

Process cashews in food processor until finely chopped.

Add next 4 ingredients, bulgar mixture and veggies. Process with on/off motion until combined. Mixture should still be coarse. Transfer to large bowl. Divide into 6 equal portions and shape into patties.

Place patties on greased baking sheet with sides. Spray with cooking spray. Broil on center rack in oven rack for 5 minutes. Turn patties over. Spray with cooking spray. Broil for another 5 mins until brown.

With the extra fabulous idea of using the patties as buns for yummy fillings.
Oh my great veggie burger, I am subbing to this right now!

I've made this with black beans, kidney beans, pinto beans, and a combination of all three. Every time they worked great. We're not even veggie and we loved this recipe!
