any recommendations for a carrier for a baby born at the begining of winter? of course i am totally drooling over the cashmere Oopa Baby ring slings, but i just do not have $300 to drop on a sling, not matter how awesome it must feel.

right now i have a MT, a homemade moby-esque wrap, a hotslings pouch, and i am awaiting the arrival of a silk ring sling.

perhaps a thin fleece wrap?

My Ds was also an October baby, and I my Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Fleece Pouch for those winter walks when he was an infant. I would zip him into my coat so that only his head peeked out. Since we were tummy to tummy under my coat, he was fine with just a light layer under the fleece plus a warm hat.

He's 15 months now so I can't zip my normal winter coat around him. I do still use the KKAFP for front carries though. I bundle him in a few more layers since he's not inside my coat, but the fleece still keeps him nice and warm for when we run errands, go for short walks, etc.

Also, this winter, I bought one of these Catbird Baby's cover ups. It's been great for longer walks on cold days. I primarily use it with my onbu for back carries. I put DS in his winter layers, hat, and mittens, and I wear him right over my coat.

I'm sure it would work for mei teis and wraps, too!

a fleece pouch is awesome for a newborn. also, babyhawk has minkee lined MT's that look so yummy and warm.

but i do think any kind of wrap or babywearing device will be adequate unless you're in a really frigid climate. and in that case you might be better off spending the extra money on a babywearing coat or poncho rather than additional carriers.

I have 2 that I've used alot this winter. I have a fleece hotsling pouch. It's very nice and so easy to use. I also have a Gypsy mama fleece wrap. It's so nice and cozy warm. I wear that one when we go outside to play. My little guy stays nice and warm and securely wrapped. I also had to invest in a babywearing coat to wear over it since it's pretty cold here.
