Hemorrhoids were something I'd only ever read about before this weekend... something all the pregnancy sites talked about, but nothing I experienced with my twins (and I had every awful pregnancy symptom/pain in the books).

But OMG... it's a pain in the butt this time around! Maybe I'm just being a big baby, but this is awful. Do you think all the car travel over the holidays caused it? (TMI- I'm not constipated).

Besides some witch hazel, what else can I do to ease the pain/inflammation? I see my OB Monday (28 wks) and I plan to ask about it then but maybe some other mamas can offer advice/share their experience/hug me.

DDCC...but I feel your pain! I had them terribly with my first, less so with my second....can you try a sitz bath? And frozen witch hazel pads? Even if you you aren't constipated I do think gentle exercise (if you can stand it) and high fiber help....my midwives got some special cream for me from a compound pharmacy....((((hugs)))) they can be really, really, painful, I know....hang in there! I hope they subside for you soon.

OMG! i'm right there with you in the hemorrhoid department being a pain in the butt!!!!!!!!!!

I just got one a few days ago. TMI>>>>It's protruding out and won't go back in. And excruciating.

Warm baths or sitz baths 3-4 times a day, followed by an ice cube wrapped in some thin fabric placed there will help. Lying on your left side for 20 minutes or so every 4 hours...These things won't be a magic cure, but they help speed healing, or so I've read.

Anyone else?

Very cool. I'll have to look around and see if that is available in my area.

How does one know it is a hemorrhoid? I'm still trying to figure this out! I'm gonna ask my midwives next time. I don't see nor feel anything different, but my behind gets itchy and hurts after bowel movements. I tried hemorrhoid ointments (natural and from the drugstore, out of desperation) and they make it way, way worse. My skin is super irritated. And I don't ever get constipated, I have the opposite problem actually. The only thing that alleviates my problem is not using toilet paper (way to aggrevating, harsh) and rinse with warm water instead, sitz baths in hot water and so on. To any of you with confirmed hemorrhoids, is that it or something else (maybe like permanently hurt skin from too many loose bowel movements?)?

Add me to the 'roid victim list. Its not super duper bad but it is sensitive and unpleasant. I mentioned it to the doctor yesterday and he said OTC stuff is fine. I bought some cream stuff today. We'll see how this goes....
