I was about to email a person who had a profile that looked good on a nanny website...until I saw that the user ID included "superbitch" and a few other letters and characters. Ack! Not the person I want taking care of my sweet little baby.

Reminds me of the one I interviewed who said the following:

ME: Why do you want to be a nanny?
NANNY: I just want to get out of the house for a while, I figured it was something to do.

ME: What would you do if my son wasn't listening when it was time to do something or go somewhere?
NANNY: Bribe him with candy, or gum, or soda pop. (At least she was honest...)

The interview was pretty much over there, but since I had liked her so much over the phone I asked one more question...

ME: What would you do if my 4 year old was crying or having a temper tantrum?
NANNY: It depends, if it was because he wanted attention, I would just ignore him. : If it was because he was just being bad, I would tell him to be quiet and make him sit in the corner.:

Needless to say, it ended there!

The next nanny I interviewed persistently asked me how I would expect her to get my 1yo to nap. I told her that we expected the nanny to either rock him, hold him, walk him in the stroller or if he was ok with it (he sometimes is) put him in the crib and rub his back. She told me that she thought holding a child until they fall asleep was "ridiculous" and that unless I would allow her to "Ferber" my child, she couldn't work for me. That one ended there too.:

Ugh. That's one of my pet peeves. Unprofessional email addresses. Some one sent me an inquiry once with the id "alittletoobuff". Really. Are you seriouse? Dude, it just makes me want to delete the email without even opening it.

I totally agree with you on NOT hiring that one. My not-so-HO is if you don't 'get' that simple part of being professional, what else is amiss in your professional life?

Wow....I would have put that in the "OBVIOUS" category.

ETA: Maybe the name actually meant 'superb itch'. Although, in that case, you probably don't want her around your kids either.

I totally agree with you! I do a lot of hiring and won't interview someone who lets something like this slip through.
