I could really use some help here trying to process this. At 5.5 weeks I started heavy spotting/light bleeding with some average menstrual cramping. After about 12 hours I passed two clots which were definitely unusual. But because I'd had bleeding with DD around the same time, at least as heavy and on and off for weeks (it was a SCH), we were quick to think positive. After the clots passed both cramping and bleeding quickly tapered off. I barely spotted into the next day.

I saw the midwife the following day and she was encouraging, said my cervix was completely closed. Didn't draw blood or order an ultrasound, but that's a different rant. In fact, they refused to give me an ultrasound until after 8 weeks. So I just found out yesterday when the ultrasound showed a completely empty uterus, normal sized, thin endometrium, both ovaries normal....as if I were never even pregnant. They drew blood and HCG was <1.

After spending 3 full weeks still feeling pregnant (my symptoms just dropped off about 5 days ago), I'm still trying to wrap my brain around this. One of the hardest things right now is that the bleeding/cramping was so minimal, it would've been an unusually short light period for me! Somehow that makes it harder for me to accept it? It also leads me to concern over my progesterone level possibly, thinking my endometrium was too thin?

I guess I could really use some reassurance about whether this sounds like a "typical" early m/c? Any words of wisdom from mamas with similar experiences? Thanks for listening.

I just had a loss at about 5 weeks too. I started bleeding last Saturday (6 days ago) and the bleeding has never been heavier than what I would experience the first couple days of my period. And the past couple days, the bleeding has totally stopped at night before I go to bed, when I wake up there is some.

I keep waiting for a huge gush to flow out of me, but it just seems like a slow trickle. At this rate it seems like I will be bleeding for a really long time.

Hugs to you. It sucks.

I started feeling crampy and discovered that I was bleeding. The pains I got at first were of similar quality as my regular monthly [terrible] pains are, but they came and went oddly instead of being a constant ache (in hindsight I'm glad I wasn't home when this started or I would have popped a very strong pill and probably not noticed the difference). It stayed like that over night, and I did take a pill to let me sleep through the pains. The pain got a little worse by morning, and by noon I was having pain more severe than a normal period. The bleeding got worse for a couple of hours when the pain was at its worst and then, somewhat suddenly, the pain lessened and the bleeding became more like a normal flow, but only lasted a day or two.

It was never much more than what a period feels like and it didn't last very long, but it was still the most horrible thing I've ever lived through.

I am SO sorry for your loss
My 5 week loss was ectopic so that's a different scenario, but most people I know who have losses around that time say it's like a heavy period. I think it sounds pretty normal. I can't belive your mw didn't at least order a blood draw when you came in the first time.
