i'm not sure if this is even the right place to post this...

my girl is almost 15 months old, and she has 6 teeth - two on bottom, four on top, all in front. her molars haven't begun to erupt. she's been eating table food for about 6 months. at first, i chewed things up for her and fed her like a baby bird, in spite of the disgusted looks from family and friends.
but for probably the last 4 months, she has wanted her food whole, the way we eat it, so she can chew it up herself. so i make things into small bits and let her have at it.

lately i have noticed whole pieces of food in her poop! not to be gross, but yesterday there were whole black beans in her diaper, and i swear, when i was putting those on her highchair tray, i thought she was chomping them up good. i figured her front teeth were doing part of the work, and her hard gums in the back were getting the rest. apparently i was wrong!

she does not have any digestion discomfort or gas or anything like that. so my question is, should i not be feeding her foods that require a lot of chewing to really break them down, since she has no molars? should i stick to things like applesauce, soup, fruit? what abouts things like rice, pasta? is it bad to actually recognize foods in their poop?

I recognize a lot of foods in DS's poop. He's healthy though, and when I've asked friends about it, they have seen the same thing with their kids. It's pretty weird to find green beans in there that look the same as they did when he ate them! I'm guessing as they get older, and probably get more molars, it will get better. DS has all 4 first year molars in but the upper ones aren't completely out of the gums yet.

I am just going to second what timneh_mom said in her earlier post, I think it is normal for some foods to digest that way.. maybe even foods with more fiber???? I know when my 2 year old eats certain foods, like corn, beans, rasins, we often see them again later...

Ditto. It's normal, I don't think their bodies digest certain foods as well as they do others. My almost 3 year old no longer has this, but the baby certainly does.

I wouldn't worry about it. I think that's just nature's way of making sure babies don't get too much nutrition from solid foods, at the expense of breastmilk, before they're ready.
