When is breastfeeding considered extended, and why? I've heard one year, and two years, and even four years.

most people say one year, but to me that is just ridiculous! one year is a BABY! i didn't feel extended

till joe was three.

i'm interested to hear what others think of as extended! it's subjective!

In this culture, anything beyond 1 year is considered "extended." However, I don't consider *anything* "extended." I refer to breastfeeding until the child self-weans as "sustained breastfeeding" (thank you whoever brought that term to my attention -- I forget who it was!). I think of anything less than that as "abridged breastfeeding."
