In America a typical story of an older man who is circed and having sexual problems is that he goes to the doctor and is prescribed Viagra or some other drug to help him out. I got to thinking, and I would love for a doctor to say something like "The main reason you're having problems is because your penis is missing an important part that was cut off when you were not able to consent" instead. Maybe that would encourage him to tell his children not to circ their future sons so they won't have problems like he did (and to get the word out that circ can cause sexual dysfunction later in life).

I was thinking the exact same thing yesterday while watching a viagra commercial! I was at work (yes, we were watching TV) and almost commented, but didn't because I was the only female in the group. Why doesn't the commercial mention that circ may have something to do with ED? (Well, that and cardiovascular issues, thanks to the standard American diet most people in the US are on--and taken together--wowzers! ED city.)

Boy that would keep men from circ'ing their son's if they were told that but I don't think some doctors would realize that except for the Meatal Stenosis but as one gal on here had to totally force it out the doctor saying her husband metal stenosis is a complication from his circumcision then he agreed .

Sometimes I think doctors see adult problems with their circumcision but hey there is a myth many people follow foreskin later problems so if they put in the 'stats' that men could be facing problems from their circumcision later on that would steer away from the circumcision stuff .

But the doctors keep hiding under the cover for some reason even when they are aware of complications .

Sadly, I think this is just another one of the possible effects of circ. that get accepted as "normal" in a society where most penises are cut. I started using viagra at 42.....way too early imo, but my dr. readily handed out a sample like pez as if it were nothing unusual....and my guess is it isn't.

I read once somewhere that the US and Israel are the only two nations with huge viagra sales -- that it's a rarely-prescribed drug in European countries, for example. I wish I could find that again sometime to see if I could verify that.

So, I happened to go looking and found:

Compares on area of England to another.
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/a...n-islington.do
I wondered if it was an area where the men were from more affluent families who paid privately for circs for several years after it stopped being done routinely in GB.

I am always a little shocked when we visit home(the States) by all the viagra commercials. You see full size billboard adds for condoms here, but I've never seen a viagra add.
But I've also talked to a lot of Americans *living in Europe* who don't realize that most of the world doesn't circ'! They certainly wouldn't make the connection between ED and circ'.
As for the story about Islington, let's not forget that viagra is frequently used "recreationally" by guys who don't really need it,but maybe have some anxiety.(I think THAT is universal )

I think if we were to call it by it's more accurate name of "genital reduction surgery", I think more men would want to leave their son's intact. It's only common sense that you reduce something by removing something from it.

I agree.....I was reading somewhere and everyone was talking and reassuring a mom how "normal" it was for her infant son to have a hidden penis. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone

I was fortunate enough to hear from a circumcised man about his experience. He discussed his true feelings regarding what was done to him, and the vast physical consequences, including ED. It's really heart-breaking, but I've shared it publicly on my blog with his permission and I hope that the story will reach some people who have not yet cut their sons and will help them see the potential consequences of doing so.

http://womanuncensored.blogspot.com/...l-someday.html

WomanUncensored, The many layers of the damage of circ seem so obvious to me. If you don't think of it as a damaging procedure, it seems very hard to grasp much of what this man speaks of.
I am so sorry for his experience and glad that he shared it.

This is an interesting thread, and one that illustrates how deep the denial is , not only within circumcised men, but especially within the medical community.

I went for an annual medical recently, and while chatting to my doctor, stated that I sure don't have much feeling left compared to my much younger years. She replied: "Well, it's the circumcision thing". She is english and considers circumcision "bizarre". I love her !!

I would love to see a sales figure analysis of viagra sales in the US compared to Europe.
