Tomorrow is one week from my EDD and I'm not having any contractions, bloody show, etc. yet. At my check up last week, the baby was at -2 station and I was 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated.

Does this mean I'm likely to go past-due? Or can labor come on quickly, even for a first-timer? (This will be my first time going into labor since DD had to be delivered via c-section at 35 weeks due to a placental abruption)

It is hard to say. I was "all ready to go" for three weeks, lol. I was dilated and effaced on my due date and he was born at 42 wks and 2 days. I didn't have any bloody show or cramps or anything until the night before he was born.

With my other two, I also didn't have any bloody show or loss of plug until I was in labor. It will happen when you least expect it.

It is hard to say. Vaginal exams really don't tell much as far as when the baby will come. I had them with my first 2. Both times I was 0 dialated and about 60% effaced. They thought I'd go another week or so. But both times, my water broke a couple days later and within 3-4 hours I had my baby. I was also checked once with my 4th baby and was 3cm and sat that way for another 4 days.

I've never had any painful/real contractions before hand. No bloody show or mucus plug lost until labor. I usually have nothing and then it's time and I go very quickly

I've had both of my babies within a day or two of my EDD. I was closed, barely effaced, baby was not 'low' and I've never lost a mucous plug or had bloody show before I've gone into labor. I actually labor for hours that way and then BAM my body dilates and pushes the baby out in the last 1-2 hours of labor. Don't put too much weight in what your body is doing now, it just messes with your head!

With my first I went from nothing to labor, not really any signs ahead of time. I had a cervical check 2 days before and I was finger tip dilated, baby still high, all that and they said it would be at least another week, well 2 days later she was here after only a 5 hour labor! With my second I had lots of contractions and a bit of prodromal, but nothing like bloody show or a dropped baby or anything like that and I just woke up in labor and had him 7 hours later. This time, I'm losing tons of plug, lots of contractions, super duper low baby and who knows when it will come, I doubt before it's due date.

Basically, try not to worry about it, you could be 4 cent and still have another 2-3 weeks left or you could be closed and have the baby tomorrow. There is no way to predict so try not to get too hung up on the numbers. Some women find it comforting to have cervical checks, but it really doesn't do anything so if it's stressing you out just refuse them. There is absolutely no medical need for a pre-labor (and rarely for an in labor) cervical exam.

Best wishes for a beautiful birth, when ever it happens! :)

It's a toss up!

I never had any labor signs with my first 4. While I've gone as long as 42 weeks, my water broke the day after my due date with #3 and she was born less than 7 hours later, taking me completely by surprise.

Thanks everyone - it's encouraging to hear that some of you had no early labor signs. Hopefully that means this baby won't keep us waiting too long...
