Someone on Bret's born-in list was asking if anyone had directions to make a diaper cake. Thanks to Emily (Chickngirl) I gave her a link on how to make a cloth one (thanks Em!!). Someone else said that she has never met anyone who uses cloth and basically implied that she should make a disposie one.
Blech... this person (who I really like despite her disposible ways, lol) has a small WAHM biz and makes diaper cakes and diaper wreaths out of disposies to sell. I about gagged when I thought of hanging diaper trash on my wall. OMG how disgusting is that?
I mean it looks sort of pretty, but come on, who gives a gift of trash that hangs on a wall?!?!?!?!?!?

Ug, I know you guys will understand. I'm glad I can vent here b/c if I did on my list I would be sure to be met w/ flames.

Oh, here is her site: Robyn's Custom Creations (click on "baby").

Oh gosh - I can totally see why you would need to vent about this! Personally I never understood the fascination with "diaper cakes" anyway - kind of disgusting to me to think of something you "eat" along with something gross to catch poopies. kwim?

Actually the wreath *is* sort of cute, and I like the idea of all the useful things on it (nail clipper, socks etc) BUT I think the whole thing could be done with CLOTH dipes instead (pre-folds) and then be CUTE as well as totally USEFUL!

So the implication is that nobody uses burp rags either? I mean, even if you don't cloth diaper, doesn't everyone need a dozen prefolds? I can't see how a sposie cake or wreath could even look cute - wouldn't it just look like trash?

i made a sposie cake for my SIL for her first baby shower. lol. the disposable diapers were hidden though, i layed them longways and wrapped them in baby towels and recieving blankets, and then made a tier cake.
i knew my SIL wasnt using cloth, and they use paper towel for burp rags. isnt that strange? when my new ones are young and we are around them, i always try to pass a burp cloth along with the baby cuz they will just grab a paper towel to wipe, and i am so particular about rough fabrics touching my new babies skin. oops...OT.

HEY! I never realized that the Diaper Genie innards I threw away were artistic--this 'wreath' looks like the 'sposie sausage made w/ a Diaper Genie.

Not sure why, but the cake thing makes a lot more sense w/ cloth...like, I don't give couples a pack of paper napkins for a wedding gift even though they'll use 'em, y'know?
