The original thread has been pulled, and it looks like if we want to have another one, it will have to be done in the War and Politics section of Activism. So is it worth starting a new one?
The last time I checked the old one, it had fallen to the second page and I don't know if anything new had been posted.

I had just added my name to the roll last night, so it was all new to me. And then...pffft! gone in a puff of smoke. So I am for it, but again, I am new. If it's old news--we'll see, I guess.

But I'll stand up to be counted once again--I am Librarymom and I am ABB in 2004.

What do you do if you don't like Bush or Kerry???

You know who should run. Ross Perot. I would vote for him.

And I'm being serious.

I was researching the elections and past elections, and I really agree with him on a lot of things. I love that he's staunchly pro-choice and funded so many women's clinics and reproductive information.

I have some concerns about Kerry, but he is the alternative to Bush and will get my vote. Although I disagree with a percentage of his views, many of them are okay, and at any rate, Bush is SO dangerous and incompetent that ABB feels pretty justifiable to me.

All I can do is pray that people who are on the fence or who want to vote for Nader or who are not thrilled with Kerry heed this:

If you think Bush has done some damage in the past 3 1/2 years, consider that most everything in the first term of presidency is a campaign for re-election. Please imagine Bush with nothing to loose. Please imagine Bush without a second term to consider. It will be like a drunk fourteen year old with a stolen credit card and his daddy's shot gun running loose on the streets.

Kerry is the ONLY viable alternative to Bush.. like it or no. We DO NOT have the luxury of voting our conscience.

Please do not vote for Nader!

Please, oh please help get this wickedly dangerous man out of office!!!!!!!

Hey, it's the anyone but Bush thread, so anyone could be Ross Perot.
I think most of us will go with Kerry even if we don't like him that much just because he seems like the lesser of two evils and is the only viable alternative. Not that I'm saying either person is evil, btw, it's just a simile.

I actually wanted to ask people voting against Bush what their specific reasons are. I have reasons, but I feel like when I try to explain them to some who don't understand, I come off as inarticulate so I was hoping that some of you more erudite people could help me out.

The thought of Bush having another term scares the living *%#& out of me!

Can someone post why if you vote for Nader you would, essentially be voting for Bush?? Dh does not seem to grasp that. He says: "What's the point of voting at all, if I can't vote for who I want???" Great concept, hun, but you might want to ask the people who voted for GORE in the last election

The idea of AAB was started back during the democratic primaries. We were saying then that we would vote for whatever candidate won the nomination. So, in that case Kerry is our ABB. Especially since there is NO WAY that Nadar or any other possible write in has a chance of winning (heck not even a chance of getting 10% of the vote even)

I "knew" this, though I hadn't actually thought it out. It's truly scary!!

Thank you for typing it out. Seeing it out there in black and white (so to speak) really drives it home.

From a NYTimes op-ed by Howard Dean:

"Voting for Ralph Nader, or for any third-party candidate for president, means a vote for a candidate who has no realistic shot of winning the White House. To underscore the danger of voting for any third-party candidate in elections this close, a statistic from the 2000 campaign may prove useful: a total of eight third-party candidates won more votes than the difference between Al Gore and George Bush nationwide."

Count me in... I'm for ABB!

I don't consider Kerry the lesser of two evils - I had doubts abouthis ability to win, which is why I didn't support him in the primaries, but I am actually very impressed with his campaign strategy so far. It appears he is laying realy low, letting Bush screw up, letting the atrocities of the Buash administration speak for themselves. I hope that in a few months, closer to the election, he'll come out strong, with powerful positions and really rally support.

Who do you want him to choose as a running mate?

I think Wesley Clark would be a great choice, he has serious military credentials, and I think he would be a great asset to help us get out of the mess in Iraq that Bush has created. Plus, his military cred may pull support from more conservative and middle of the road voters.

Howard Dean would be wonderful as well, but I think may not have as much broad appeal.

I don't even know if it is possible, but I think the greatest person would be John McCain - can you imagine a bi-partisan ticket, united in their resolve to oust Bush and save our country?
